Chain Bridge Forest
Suburban Neighborhood in Arlington, Virginia
Arlington County 22207
Large, custom homes from the 1970s
Chain Bridge Forest was developed in the 1970s with custom homes. “There is that prestige with Chain Bridge. The house I have on the market there is [listed for] $1.7 million, built in the 1970s, and hasn’t had much done to it. Houses that have been renovated sell around $2.2 million,” Twigg says. $1.7 million aligns with the median home value in this neighborhood. Homes come in numerous styles and each have unique details, though large, Colonial-style houses are particularly popular. Other styles include Tudor revival, Second Empire revival and California Contemporary homes with flat roofs, with many houses incorporating elements from multiple eras and styles. Homes have well-kept lawns and mature trees offering privacy between neighbors, and several homes have swimming pools. Residential streets lined with sidewalks weave through this hilly area, and nearly all homes have garages. Most residents must have plans to alter the exterior of their homes approved by the Chain Bridge Forest Association Architectural Committee before moving forward with the project.Potomac Overlook Park, Glebe Road Park and more
Nearby Fort Ethan Allen Park has a playground, dog park and basketball court, and is the site of Madison Community Center. The park also hosts walking tours, where groups can learn how Fort Ethan Allen was built and used by Union Soldiers during the Civil War. Outdoor enthusiasts have miles of trails to hike or bike along the Potomac River. Glebe Road also has hilly terrain and sidewalks that are enjoyed by more serious bicyclists, and Glebe Road Park has more facilities like tennis and basketball courts. The park’s trails connect to the Gulf Branch Nature Center, which has nature exhibits, a pollinator garden and a pond. Chain Bridge Forest is also about 3 miles north of the private Washington Golf and Country Club.Arlington County public schools serve the neighborhood
Chain Bridge Forest is on the line between Fairfax and Arlington Counties, meaning some students attend Fairfax County schools – though most attend Arlington County schools. Students attending Arlington schools typically start at Jamestown Elementary School and continue to Williamsburg Middle School. Both schools earned A grades from Niche. Older students attend the A-plus-rated Yorktown High School. Yorktown High School is rated the top school for STEM education in Arlington County by Niche, and students enrolled in specific Technology Education courses can participate in internships and obtain industry certifications by the time they graduate. The school also offers a Science Research Program, where students complete research projects under the guidance of industry professionals and present their findings over three years.Events hosted by the Chain Bridge Forest Civic Association
The Chain Bridge Forest Association sponsors events such as the Fall Picnic in October, where kids parade their Halloween costumes and families grill out on Chain Bridge Forest Court, and the Spring Brunch, a well-attended event in April at the Washington Golf & Country Club. Members of the Chain Bridge Garden Club meet monthly to share their common interest in gardening, hear from guest speakers and beautify the neighborhood. Neighbors also catch up at more casual events like book swaps and clubs, movie nights and dinner clubs hosted by residents, and the neighborhood is less than 6 miles from museums like the National Gallery of Art and the National Portrait Gallery in D.C.Routes into D.C. from Chain Bridge Forest
Chain Bridge Forest is about 8 miles northwest of Ronald Reagan National Airport and is under a flight path that can create noise disturbances. Additionally, transit from Chain Bridge Forest is limited, and the area is largely car-dependent. Most drivers would either Cross over Chain Bridge or follow Military Road into D.C., depending on the time of day. Chain Bridge has three lanes of traffic, one of which is a reverse lane to accommodate incoming and outgoing traffic during rush hours. Pedestrians could technically walk about a mile from Chain Bridge Forest to the Chain Bridge and cross the Potomac into Washington, D.C., on foot. However, “traffic whizzes by pretty fast [on Chain Bridge], so not many people do that,” Twigg says. Chain Bridge Forest residents can also take the 72 Bus from Williamsburg Boulevard to the Ballston-MU Metro station and take the Orange line into D.C., though this route would typically take much longer to enter D.C. than driving. The Cap Index score in Chain Bridge Forest is a 1, indicating a very low crime risk in the area.Nearby Lee Harrison Shopping Center and Lee Heights Shops
Although there are no shops or restaurants within the boundaries of Chain Bridge Forest, residents can run errands at nearby Lee Harrison Shopping Center, about 3 miles south. The shopping plaza has a Harris Teeter, Starbucks, Duck Donuts and other casual restaurants like Sushi-Zen, a casual Japanese spot. For a meal out, D.C. is just a quick drive away. “The D.C. restaurants are actually really the closest to us,” says Jane Morrison, real estate agent and co-founder of Varity Homes. She recommends Et Voila, a Belgian bistro about 2 miles east of Chain Bridge Forest, and Millie’s, a New-England-style seafood restaurant with an outdoor patio. Chain Bridge Forest is also about 3 miles north of Lee Heights Shops, a small shopping center with local specialty shops like Arrowine & Cheese and Pastries by Randolph.
