Peaceful subdivision with single-family homes in North Arlington
Hilly and densely shaded by trees, Rock Spring’s landscape almost exclusively consists of single-family homes. This northern Arlington neighborhood is popular among families who want to walk with their kids to some of the top-rated schools in Arlington, drive to the National Mall in just a few minutes and have a quiet neighborhood to come home to at the end of the day. “Rock Spring is a very suburban part of Arlington, so you have people there who want that feel. It has big lots and some really big, spectacular homes,” says Betsy Twigg, Associate Broker with McEnearney Associates.

Large houses on large lots
Rock Spring was largely developed in the 1940s with “really nice houses for big government officials at the time,” says Twigg. Many of these original homes still exist today, though several have been replaced by newer builds. “There were a lot of estates around there that might have had one house on it that, over the years, has been subdivided into six or so big houses around it,” Twigg says. Homes built within the last 10 years include modern and Craftsman-inspired new traditional styles, often spanning over 5,000 square feet. These spacious homes typically cost $2.2 million to north of $2.8 million. Original brick ranches, split levels and colonial revival homes built between the 1940s and ‘60s still exist in the neighborhood today, and many of them have newer additions and renovations. These houses typically span less than 3,000 square feet and sit on quarter-acre lots, costing between $1 million and $1.6 million.
