Waycroft/Woodlawn

Lacey Woods Park and Woodlawn Park are within walking distance of Waycroft-Woodlawn's homes
Lacey Woods Park is a popular park on the southern border of Waycroft-Woodlawn. Betsy Twigg, an Associate Broker with McEnearney Associates, says, "They have this low-level soccer field where the little three-year-olds learn to play." Kids of all ages can enjoy the playground or basketball court, and there's plenty of room on 14 acres for a game of tag. There's even a stone bonfire pit surrounded by benches to roast s'mores on a balmy summer evening. Woodlawn Park is also in the neighborhood, smaller than Lacey Woods Park, with just an acre of space, but centrally located inside the neighborhood. Kids can play basketball on the half-court and enjoy the playground, while adults can take their pups for a walk on the paved trail that passes by a churning stream with mild tree cover. Nearby, Ballston Quarter hosts the MedStar Capitals Iceplex, which has two ice rinks, one that the Washington Capitals practice on and another public rink for locals to skate on. There's also the Custis Trail, stretching almost 5 miles through Arlington County and accessible from most of Waycroft-Woodlawn's dead-end streets to the south.

While Waycroft/Woodlawn is mainly residential, shopping and dining are always nearby. A mile west along Washington Boulevard is the small shopping corridor in Westover Village. Locally-owned businesses are the main highlight here. "There's an old neighborhood staple that has very good food, probably the best food, called the Lebanese Taverna, and it's been around forever," says Twigg. Make sure to pop into Ayers Variety & Hardware while you're nearby. "It's sort of the anchor of that surrounding area," Twigg says. "It was started by John Ayers, who was informally known as the Mayor of Westover. Every kid got their first job at Ayers, and it's where all the kids still go after school." Westover also hosts locally loved establishments like The Italian Store, serving beer, wine, and made-to-order deli sandwiches, and the Westover Market Beer Garden, with a butcher shop, an outdoor patio where live music is often played, and over 1,000 beer options making up its "Great Wall of Beer." To the east is the Ballston-Virginia Square area, with a Giant for grocery shopping or brand-name retailers at the Ballston Quarter shopping mall. There are also regionally recognized restaurants like Rocklands Barbecue and Grilling Company, praised for its hickory-smoked meats. For entertainment, Ballston Quarter has a Regal Cinemas theater and bars with games like Punch Bowl Social for a night out on the town.Celebrate Independence Day with the neighborhood's 4th of July Children's Bicycle Parade
