Although "far" is in its name, Far Horizons is close to outdoor amenities and shopping areas. Trail networks weave throughout the neighborhood, making exploring nearby park options as simple as following sidewalks or walking from Far Horizons Park. “This a really nice community that has some smaller-scale homes compared to some of the larger homes that exist in Lake Arbor,” says Joann Perito, a Realtor with Avenues Unlimited and a Colorado native with 26 years of experience. “This is definitely a family community with established churches, and then there’s the rec centers, major shopping, the King Soopers, banking, everything is right there.” Downtown Westminster is bringing more notoriety to this community, Perito says, with the Alamo and a walkable dining district being built just to the north.

Customizing Far Horizons’ flat lots
Ranch-style houses decorate Far Horizons’ flat, curved lots. Homeowners associations are not found within this Arvada community, so residents are free to customize their backyards, adding sheds, patios and playsets. Although this neighborhood's average home value is higher than the national average, values remain around $100,000 less than Arvada averages since 2020. These early 1960s homes range from $473,000 for a four-bedroom to $620,000 for a five-bedroom home. Dogwalkers travel down paved sidewalks, removed from the flow of traffic down neighborhood streets.

Jeffco Public Schools shakeups
Jeffco Public Schools district has undergone many shakeups recently, with schools consolidating with other buildings due to staffing shortages. Little Elementary School, within Lake Arbor, now teaches learners from Parr Elementary School, which lies within the Far Horizons neighborhood. Little earns a Grade C-plus from Niche. Moore Middle School, where students would transition after fifth grade, will graduate its final class of eighth graders in 2024, placing students in Pomona High School. Pomona will become a sixth through 12th grade school starting the fall 2024 school year. This high school and the Moore Middle School each earn a Grade B-minus from Niche. Once attending Pomona, students can take Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment courses through a partnership with Red Rocks Community College to earn college credit before high school graduation.

Park trails to Lake Arbor tee times
Local trail networks connect residents with neighboring parks, including Lake Arbor Park to the south. The playground was built to reflect natural elements with green and brown shades used on slides and climbing structures. Walkers travel along the park’s paved paths, admiring the Front Range as geese and ducks glide along the lake. Fishing enthusiasts reel in bass, channel catfish and crappie. Since Far Horizons is next to Lake Arbor, local golfers stay close to home when they tee off for 18 holes at city-owned Lake Arbor Golf Club.

King Square Center
King Square Center – a shopping center within the neighborhood’s southeast corner – comprises a quarter of Far Horizons’ property mix. Within this parking lot, residents can access grocery runs at King Soopers and the tastes of Italy in Enrico’s Italian Sausage & Market. Open for over 40 years, this neighborhood market stocks local pantries with canned homemade sauces, packs fridges with Italian meats, and fills stomachs with calzones and Italian subs. Over at Bout Time Pub & Grub, bartenders pour cold brews and mixed drinks for patrons to wash down with bar bites while playing bingo. Just outside the neighborhood, on the north side, locals stop at Lowe’s and Harbor Freight, buying supplies for home improvement projects.

Sheridan Boulevard brings travelers farther
This community depends on personal vehicles for transportation, though the Regional Transportation District (RTD) does have bus stops along Far Horizons’ eastern edge, Sheridan Boulevard. Commuters are roughly 12 miles from Denver, whether they take the bus or travel east to hop on U.S. Route 36 or Interstate 25. “From Far Horizons, if you jump on US-36, you can be in Boulder in 30 minutes,” Perito says. “That’s really important because Boulder is super expensive, but Boulder is also where people want to work.” Travelers utilize Interstate 70, driving 25 miles east to the Denver International Airport for access to over 200 nonstop flight destinations. “The other beneficial thing about this location in Far Horizons is the light rail system that gets people into Downtown Denver for the Colorado Rockies or Denver Nuggets games,” Perito says. With a blend of suburban comforts and city amenities, the Far Horizons community lets locals expand their horizons without forfeiting the calm along cul-de-sac sidewalks.
