Desirable enclave to settle down
Oak Crest—also referred to as Oak Park—is the desirable type of suburb where folks tend to stick around once they settle in, and the homes that sporadically pop up on the market are snatched up quickly. Lots are spacious and often dotted with maples and pine trees that offer shade in the summer, with some streets featuring sidewalks ideal for an early morning walk. A few older homes stand steadfastly next to newly built or renovated properties, and residents living in the southern part of town may hear the train that runs through that area. “Prices are high in Oak Crest, but the proximity to Denver, Golden and Boulder makes it the perfect center point,” says Justin Pfeifer, an Arvada local and real estate agent at RE/MAX Northwest Inc.

Both suburban and eclectic home styles
Residential roads feature dual-toned Colonial Revivals or Craftsman and Traditional-inspired houses flanked by wide ranch-style homes. Many also display farmhouse elements like curved or hipped roofs and Tudor-style half-timbering details. These single-family properties typically range between 1,500 and 4,500 square feet, boasting multicar garages, driveways and landscaped or hardscaped lawns visible from the front and fenced-in, sizeable yards around the back. “We saw a huge increase in the market between 2012 and 2016, and with these new builds the prices are still going up,” Pfeifer notes. More established Split Levels and raised ranch homes can sell from as low as $550,000 to around $800,000, while larger or renovated dwellings can cost from $800,000 to upwards of $1.8 million.
