A quiet corner of a bustling ski town
Aspen’s East End sits along the forested frontier where this resort city meets the natural splendor of the Sawatch Range. “Heading east out of town towards Independence Pass, you have amazing natural beauty, beautiful aspen trees and fall colors,” says Realtor Jennifer Banner with Christie’s International Real Estate. “It’s a quieter part of town, as, during wintertime, Independence Pass is closed to traffic.” Hillside residences offer large lot sizes, ample privacy and panoramic views of the tree-covered mountains. Here, suburban Aspenites can take in the fresh, mountain air while never being more than 2 miles away from the city’s downtown shopping and dining.

Mountain hiking and riverside strolls
The East End’s location among the foothills of the Sawatch Range immerses its residents in nature and provides ample opportunities for outdoor adventures. “You’ve got the river coming through there and walking paths running along it,” Banner says. The Roaring Fork River winds through the East End and the rest of Aspen, and its banks are explorable along the East of Aspen Trail and other tree-lined pathways. The trailhead to Smuggler Mountain starts just off Park Avenue, which serves as the East End’s western boundary. This trail leads past the Wild West-era Smuggler Mine and up a mountain whose peak presents hikers with panoramic views of Aspen, its surrounding mountains and scarlet sunsets. At the heart of the East End, the lush Snyder Park makes visitors feel like they’re exploring an uncharted forest. This small patch of green space is thick with trees and revolves around a small lake. There's also a playground, aqueduct and picnic area all of which make it a frequent venue for afternoon nature outings. From March to May, Aspen experiences its most snowfall, transforming the city into a winter wonderland. Skiing is the city's main calling card and the lifts to Aspen Mountain Ski Resort are about a mile west of the neighborhood.

Hillside homes are immersed in Rocky Mountain nature
Though many of the East End’s hillside homes were built during the 1960s, construction has never ceased. Older Mid-Century Modern residences now mix with Contemporary and Provencal-influenced properties built in the 2010s. Homes with between 1 and 3 bedrooms sell for between $1.45 million and $7.2 million, while residences with between 4 and 7 bedrooms vary in price from $1.66 million to $24.5 million. The East End's streetscapes are defined by winding hilltop roads with large lot sizes and plenty of wooded space between homes, providing homeowners with both privacy and little slices of Rocky Mountain nature.

Proximity to downtown shopping
The East End, as an entirely residential neighborhood, does not have any restaurants or shops of its own. However, its location just off Cooper Avenue puts it just over a mile away from downtown shopping and dining. The closest supermarket is City Market, located along Cooper Avenue, while Downtown is also home to the Aspen Saturday Market and its weekly summer produce selection.

Strong athletics and academics at Aspen High
Aspen Elementary School scores a B rating from Niche, while Aspen Middle School and Aspen High School each receive A-minuses. Aspen High School, like the rest of the city, takes pride in its ski-oriented location, and its “Skiers” student athletes have accumulated nearly twenty skiing championships. Other extracurriculars like the Aeronautics, Robotics and Debate clubs encourage student innovation and intellectual curiosity.
Bus access to Downtown
Though the East End is separated by the Roaring Fork River from the rest of the city, Cooper Avenue connects this neighborhood with the heart of Aspen a mile away. The RFTA bus service’s Mountain Valley line runs from the East End’s eastern frontier to the Rubey Park Transit Center at the center of Aspen. Snow forces the closure of State Route 82 between Aspen and Twin Lakes from October to May. Those looking to get from one to the other are forced to take a more circuitous route up U.S. Highway 24 to Interstate 70. Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is 3 miles northwest of the city and offers flights to several major hubs around the country.
