Brookwood
Brookwood Hills offers turn-of-the-century dwellings
Brookwood Hills’ curvy streets brim with meticulously maintained homes. Federal-style dwellings have four to five bedrooms and brick staircases ascending to the front door. Tudor estates sit on half-acre lots with guesthouses in the backyard. Three-bedroom builds on 10,000-square-foot lots are often Cape Cod cottages, Craftsman-style bungalows and Dutch Colonial Revivals. Each property has a parking option, whether it’s a detached two-car garage or a private driveway. “It’s a very classy neighborhood and very walkable,” says Kelly Chancy, a Realtor with Keller Williams Buckhead, who has been selling homes in the area for 19 years. “It has a lot of charming time-period homes. You can find century-old homes, homes from the 1950s, and occasional new builds. It’s not cookie-cutter. Every home is its own unique home.” No matter the style, a home in Brookwood Hills can cost between $700,000 and $3 million. Homebuyers will also find condos surrounding Peachtree Street starting at $300,000 and going up $600,000.Brookwood Hills has a members-only clubhouse and ample public green spaces
While any neighborhood resident can join Brookwood Hills Community Club on Wakefield Drive, it also has a few non-resident memberships. There are lifeguards on duty at the swimming pool that's surrounded by lounge chairs. Tennis enthusiasts can practice their serve on the courts, and children can run around the playground with rock-climbing structures and a slide spanning the hilly terrain. “The Brookwood Hills Civic Association hosts great events in the park. It’s a very tight-knit community,” says Raw. “They do a Fall Fest and cardboard boat race in the pool.” Jolly Hollyday is held every Christmas season, featuring horse-drawn carriage rides around the neighborhood, hot cocoa stands and a visit from Santa.Residents can also access the 70-acre Clear Creek Nature Preserve on Huntington Road. As a part of the 22-mile Atlanta BeltLine trail system, the land is filled with boardwalk paths and silky dogwood shrubs. The neighborhood is surrounded by several other recreational hubs less than 2 miles away, including the 200-acre Atlanta Memorial Park. White ash trees shade the playground, picnic tables and nature trails. It’s also home to the Bobby Jones Golf Course, offering a double green, each with nine holes. Art lovers will find various locally made pieces at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia on Bennett Street.
Rivers Elementary, Sutton Middle and North Atlanta High School
Children in Brookwood Hills may attend Rivers Elementary and Sutton Middle, which both score B-plus grades on Niche. The middle school has one campus for sixth-grade students on Powers Ferry Road and another for seventh- and eighth-grade students on Northside Drive. North Atlanta High has an A-minus rating and holds an annual college fair for students with over 200 university representatives.Peachtree Street is loaded with convenience
From the Fresh Market grocery store to the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, Peachtree Street at the neighborhood’s core provides numerous conveniences. It’s also home to an eclectic restaurant selection, including Café Sunflower. The casual vegan spot serves lunch, dinner and Saturday brunch, with menu items like fried avocado tacos and fettuccine alfredo. Opened in 2009, Varasano’s Pizzeria has quickly become a city-wide staple, known for its thin-crust, sourdough pies and extensive wine menu. Big-box retailers like Walmart Supercenter are less than 3 miles west in the Howell Mill Square shopping center, and the Atlantic Station mall is 2 miles south, offering over 50 stores and a Regal Cinema.Peachtree Train Station, bus stops and downtown Atlanta proximity
A 6-mile drive south on Peachtree Street leads to downtown Atlanta. The thoroughfare is also sprinkled with Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority bus stops. "Peachtree Street is one of Atlanta’s main thoroughfares,” says Raw. “It has its own Amtrak station in the neighborhood. The train stops in New York City and New Orleans.”
