Renovated cottages and ranches in Collier Hills
Most entrances to the neighborhood feature brick pillars, often decorated for the holidays, leading into the forested, narrow streetscapes. Pocket parks dot the area, and neighbors have easy access to the Atlanta BeltLine just steps from their yards. The lots here are spacious and hilly, with long paved driveways that front well-maintained, traditional homes. Many houses in Collier Hills are cottages and ranch-style houses from the 1940s and 1950s set on quarter-acre lots. Mature trees provide shade along the quiet, sidewalk-free streets. “Most of the homes have been bought and renovated,” says Kenna Daws, an Atlanta native and realtor with Keller Williams Realty Atlanta North. “There’s a lot of young couples without children starting their careers, with homes large enough to accommodate growing families." Properties in Collier Hills rarely hit the market, and when they do, buyers typically pay between $700,000 and well over $1 million. “Collier Hills is a popular area,” Daws says. “People stay in the area for a while. You don’t see prices declining, and you don’t see houses on the market.”North Atlanta High has an A-minus grade
Collier Hills is served by the Atlanta Public Schools district. “We have private schools in the area, but there are also good public schools,” says Daws. Rivers Elementary and Sutton Middle School both earn B-plus grades on Niche. A-rated North Atlanta High offers an International Baccalaureate program and several after-school clubs, including the Academic Decathlon, Science National Honor Society, and a Mock Trial Club. The high school moved into a converted IBM office complex in 2013. The state-of-the-art space, which cost nearly $150 million to complete, became the most expensive public school in Georgia history. Buckhead is also home to several prestigious private schools, including The Westminster Schools and Pace Academy. Both receive A-plus grades from Niche and serve kindergarten through 12th grade.Interstate 75 leads to downtown Atlanta
Collier Hills is located in south Buckhead, just 5 miles from downtown. “People in this area are commuting to Midtown, where corporations and banks are, and they can get downtown easily on I-75,” Daws says. “It’s a good jumping-off point.” With access to the BeltLine, residents can also reach surrounding neighborhoods without a car. Piedmont Atlanta, a 643-bed hospital, is just east on Peachtree Road Northwest, while Midtown is 3 miles away via Peachtree Road Northeast. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is a 14-mile drive south on Interstate 85.Walkable to parks and sccess to Atlanta's BeltLine
The neighborhood is home to the Northside Trail, a paved path for bikers and hikers that winds through four local parks. The forested trail connects to the larger BeltLine, a 22-mile network that runs through neighborhoods across the city. In 2023, the neighborhood hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new playground at Tanyard Creek Park on 28th Street Northwest. Visitors can walk along covered wooden bridges beneath towering train trestles. Following the BeltLine, about 3 miles north, leads to Bitsy Grant Tennis Center and Bobby Jones Golf Course, both part of the 200-acre Atlanta Memorial Park.Collier Hills 5K Fun Run and the Fall Festival
The Collier Hills Civic Association hosts a 5k Fun Run/Walk through Tanyard Creek Park in August. Friends of Tanyard Creek Park and Friends of Louise Howard Park organize volunteer events that bring neighbors together to beautify green spaces. Many residents also join the Greystone Garden Club, which holds an annual Fall Festival at Tanyard Creek Park Playground, featuring pumpkin picking, face painting and pony rides. The association also organizes a wreath sale during the holidays, with proceeds for yearly projects. For entertainment, there’s live music at the Buckhead Theatre, 3 miles north, and the Atlanta Falcons play at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, 4 miles south.Shopping and dining on Howell Mill Road
The neighborhood’s location along Interstate 75 offers locals convenient access to major shopping corridors in downtown and Midtown. Howell Mill Road, on the west side of Collier Hills, features a mix of locally owned businesses and big-box stores that are walkable from neighborhood homes. Howell’s Kitchen and Bar is popular for its patio and bocce ball. Zunzi’s serves award-winning, piled-high sandwiches and wings, while Cultivate Food and Coffee offers a bright café experience with signature lattes and a farm-to-table brunch menu. Residents head to Howell Mill Village for errands to pick up groceries at Publix Super Market.
