Fairburn Heights
Ranch-style and midcentury modern homes at relatively low prices
The neighborhood is primarily filled with ranch-style homes, many of which were built in the 1960s or earlier. They can range from $200,000 to $285,000. A handful of midcentury modern-influenced homes can be found along Collier Drive. These houses can go between $330,000 and $340,000. Most small neighborhood roads lack sidewalks, but main thoroughfares like Fairburn Road Northwest do have them. Tall trees line the streets. Myra Killings, a broker with Joseph Property Advisors, says new developments close to the neighborhood, like the $450 million mixed-use redevelopment of The Mall West End, could cause prices to rise in the near future. That development is just over 5 miles from Fairburn Heights. “Right now, it's still attractive for the bargain buyer,” Killings says. “When these developments are done, they’ll gain equity in their homes.” The neighborhood has a CAP Index Crime Score of 5 out of 10, which is slightly higher than the national average of 4 and driven by elevated violent crime scores.Atlanta Public Schools and the Iovine and Young Program
Students are served by Atlanta Public Schools. They can attend Harper-Archer Elementary School, which has a C-minus Niche grade. The John Lewis Invictus Academy, a middle school, also earns a C-minus. Frederick Douglass High School offers the Iovine and Young Program, which is designed to challenge students’ critical thinking skills which teaching them about entrepreneurship, art and technology among other subjects. The school holds a C-minus grade.Interstates 285 and 20 take people in and around the city
Interstate 285 runs east of the neighborhood, while Interstate 20 is to the south. “You easily can get to the city, to the airport or to Cumberland Mall,” Killings says. The community is less than 10 miles from downtown Atlanta and just over 3 miles from Six Flags over Georgia. The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, or MARTA, operates a bus system in the region. Several bus stops can be found along Fairburn Road Northwest, connecting the neighborhood to the rest of the city.Athletic facilities and Cascade Family Skating
Collier Park has a playground and a basketball court. Gratitude Botanical Farm educates visitors on urban agriculture and holds events like a guided mulberry foraging experience. Across Interstate 285, Dr. Mary Shy Scott Memorial Park has tennis courts, a baseball diamond and a large field for soccer, football and other sports among its amenities. Just south of the community, Cascade Family Skating roller rink has served the area for more than 30 years, and the C.T. Martin Natatorium and Recreation Center has swimming pools and other facilities.Nearby Southern and classic American eateries
While there are no restaurants or shops in the residential community, several sit along nearby MLK Jr. Drive Southwest in Adamsville. That includes Memezz Restaurant, which serves Southern-style breakfast and lunch. Ameen Fish and Wings is a counter-service eatery that serves its namesake foods along with freshly baked pies. A few miles away, Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes has classic American food. There is a Dollar General in Adamsville and a Walmart Supercenter around 3 miles south.
