The early and midcentury bungalows and contemporary homes in Lakewood Heights rest on small lots along narrow roads. Properties sell for $110,000 to $530,000, with prices dependent on age and renovation. Homes stay on the market for an average of 37 days. “Investors are buying houses and fixing them up, waiting for the Beltline to come,” says Kiana Collins, an experienced area Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Atlanta Perimeter. The neighborhood’s CAP Index Crime Score is 6 out of 10, higher than the national average of 4. Statistics from the Atlanta Police Department show a 30% decrease in crime from 2023 to 2024. “Police do a lot of patrolling and have a lot of community-based interactions with the public," Weiswasser says. "Residents are also vigilant in advocating for a safe community. Our crime rate has been decreasing at a pace unheard of in the city."Transportation options in Lakewood Heights
Interstate 85 and Jonesboro Road, less than a mile away, head 4 miles north to downtown Atlanta. I-85 intersects with I-20, which slices east to west through the city. The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has bus stops throughout the neighborhood, including along Jonesboro and Pryor roads. Public transportation will be enhanced with the expected 2025 completion of an electric bus line. There are also bike lanes throughout the neighborhood. They move on to South Atlanta High School, rated a C-minus, which has a gifted and talented program with AP courses and a STEM-based curriculum. Students may also attend other schools thanks to Georgia’s school choice laws.Bingo and bands at The Ideal Sports Bar
The Ideal Sports Bar on Lakewood Avenue hosts bands and bingo while serving traditional bar food. The Black Coffee Atlanta brews organic beans, while Love at First Bite’s brunches include French toast and breakfast tacos. Carver Market has a small shop on McDonough Boulevard for groceries, and Publix is 2 miles north. A planned food hall will include outdoor eating areas, bars, coffee shops and restaurants. At the Edgewood shopping center, 7 miles north off Moreland Drive, there’s a Kroger, Marshalls and Target.Nature trails and playground at South Bend Park

The park encompasses 75 acres and includes a playground, dog park and seasonal pool. There's a shaded pavilion with a vaulted roof that overlooks an abstract metal sculpture.Lakewood Amphitheater hosts national acts and community gatherings
Neighborhood Planning Unit 7 hosts annual back-to-school drives and the Unity Day Festival, providing free meals while attendees meet with city government representatives and take photos with Santa. Lakewood Amphitheater, with a capacity of 20,000, has hosted performances by Elton John, Wu-Tang Clan and Tom Petty since opening on Lakewood Way in 1989. Proximity to the venue and the incoming Beltline has resulted in “a real influx in home prices,” Weiswasser says. A house off Lakewood Terrace is another musical landmark, where the Grammy-winning duo Outkast wrote and recorded in an unfinished basement with clay floors known as The Dungeon.
