Pine Hills
Suburban Neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia
Fulton County 30324

Midcentury modern homes from the 50s and 60s, plus newer condos
Distinct for its sizeable collection of midcentury modern homes, most of the residences in this Buckhead neighborhood were built in the 1950s and 60s. “There are a lot of midcentury moderns that have been renovated. They have big front lots with huge front yards and long driveways,” Kraften says. However, the neighborhood also has newer, modern homes and condos. “If you look on Lenox Road. there are a lot of condo communities, but in most of Pine Hills it’s big houses,” Kraften says. “The houses are expensive. The low end is $600,000 and it goes up to the millions.” On the other hand, a one-bedroom condominium starts at around $200,000.Shady Valley Park and Indian Creek Park
Shady Valley Park in Pine Hills offers two playgrounds, one of which features a kids’ rock-climbing wall. There are also nature trails, basketball and tennis courts. For more outside time, the 4-acre Indian Creek Park has a walking path winding through a grove of old-growth pine trees. For a larger park with facilities like a golf course and more expansive trails, Atlanta Memorial Park is about 5 miles west of Pine Hills.Prestigious private schools and well-rated Atlanta Public Schools
“A lot of people in Pine Hills send their kids to private schools,” Kraften says. Among the several well-regarded private schools nearby are Atlanta International School and The Galloway School, both with A-plus grades from Niche. Pine Hills is also served by the DeKalb County School District and the Atlanta Public Schools system. Students attending Atlanta Public Schools will begin at Sarah Smith Elementary School, which earned an A-minus. Students will progress to the B-plus-rated Sutton Middle School and A-minus-rated North Atlanta High School. North Atlanta High School opened in its current building, an 11-story converted office complex, in 2013. The school cost $147 million to construct, more than any other school in Georgia’s history.Neighborhood events and Legoland Discovery Center
Kraften describes the area as friendly and neighborly. “Pine Hills has a neighborhood association,” he says. “They put on community yard sales, Easter egg scavenger hunts and trick or treat things for Halloween.” For more family attractions, Pine Hills is less than two miles from Legoland Discovery Center in Phipps Plaza, an indoor activity center with Lego exhibits and building activities. The plaza also has an AMC movie theater for weekend outings.Driving and commuting from Pine Hills
“The biggest thing about Pine Hills is the location,” Kraften says. “It’s right next to Lenox mall and Phipps Plaza. There’s easy access to 400, 75 and 85, and you can get to downtown in 15 minutes.” Top locations like Midtown Atlanta and Piedmont Atlanta Hospital are just 5 miles from Pine Hills. The northern end of Pine Hills also has Lenox Transit Station, on the Gold Line of MARTA’s light trail system. This north-south line can take riders south to Midtown Atlanta and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.Brunch at Toast On Lenox and other options at Lenox Square
For eating out, locals enjoy Pancho’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina for standard Mexican fare like chile rellenos and fajitas. Known for their “monster margaritas” as much as their cuisine, visitors can dine indoors or outside on their expansive patio. Toast On Lenox is the go-to spot for brunch. Its menu satisfies with options like strawberry shortcake French toast and chicken and waffles. Nearby on Peachtree Road, Lenox Square has a multitude of familiar eateries like The Cheesecake Factory and Chick-fil-A. It’s also home to high-end retail shops, including Bloomingdale’s and Gucci.
