Past and present collide in Whittier Mill Village’s historic district and new subdivision
The history of Whittier Mill Village goes back to 1895 when it was developed to house workers at the Whittier Cotton Mill on the Chattahoochee River. The mill closed in 1971, but the restored cottages keep the village’s aesthetics frozen in time. “It’s a smaller neighborhood and the homes are close together. Not super close but close enough to where everyone knows their neighbor,” says Kyndra Beaudoin-Terry, an area resident and Realtor with Coldwell Banker Atlanta. “A lot of people move here for its diversity and home neighborhood vibe.” Just east of the historic district, the Vinings on the Chattahoochee subdivision, constructed in the early 2010s, has over 200 contemporary homes. According to Beaudoin-Terry, the neighborhood’s good schools and proximity to Atlanta’s booming Upper West Side commercial district are some of the main attractions to the area.
Portions of Whittier Mill Village's original mill still stand tall within the park.
