Atlas Township is a quiet home base with convenience
Located on the southeast corner of Genesee County, Atlas Township is a highly residential area encompassed by farmland. “It surrounds Goodrich, so you get those highly rated schools but with larger lots, wooded acreage and that true country-living feel,” says Realtor Christine Champlin with Re/Max, who has lived in the area for 35 years. “Many who work in Flint, the Detroit suburbs or even Lansing choose it for the lifestyle, then commute in.” Atlas Township accommodates buyers searching for a slower pace without straying too far from urban amenities.
From suburbs with ranch-style homes to private countryside properties
Buyers will find single-family houses with various styles of architecture. Modest ranch-style homes typically start in the $200,000 to $400,000 range, and an acreage with a New Traditional home may sell from $600,000 to over $1 million. Residential streets off busy roads have more densely packed lots with front lawns, driveways and sizeable backyards. Other areas are rural and secluded, offering plenty of space to spread out. The CAP Index Crime Score is also 1 out of 10, significantly lower than the national average of 4.
Goodrich Area Schools are highly coveted
Children in Atlas Township attend Goodrich Area Schools, which Champlin says is a key attraction for families. According to Niche, the district ranks No. 4 out of 36 in the Flint area. Reid Elementary for prekindergarten through first grade and Oaktree Elementary for second through fifth grade earn B-plus ratings from Niche. Goodrich Middle also scores a B-plus, and Goodrich High has a B. Students can participate in extracurricular activities, like the robotics and chess clubs.
Public and private outdoor amenities on land and water
Atlas Township’s rural locale provides many recreation opportunities right outside the front door. “Residents enjoy walking, biking or running along the scenic backroads lined with fields and woods,” Champlin says. The town also has gathering spaces, like Atlas County Park, known for its forested trails for hiking, biking and cross-country skiing. The park offers kayaking in the Atlas Millpond and fishing in Kearlsey Creek. The Atlas Valley Golf Club is open to the public, though memberships are available. The club has a pool for members and new pickleball courts coming in 2026. Residents are 10 miles from Ortonville, which has a recreation area for camping, equestrian trails and a lake with sandy shores.
A quick drive from restaurants and shops
Apart from the post office and a few churches, most commercial development is outside the township. The Atlas Valley Golf Club has a bar and grill, though additional restaurants are 3 miles away in Goodrich, like Trio Tavern & Grill. “It’s a standout in downtown Goodrich known for its family-friendly, yet polished atmosphere,” Champlin says. “They also offer gluten-free and vegan options, cocktails and wines, and frequently host live music.” Dollar General is also in Goodrich, and Kroger and Walmart are 5 to 6 miles away in Grand Blanc. Other big-box options are 10 to 15 miles away in Flint.
Major thoroughfares in Genesee County and access to medical care
The two main streets in town are Perry and Gale roads. Michigan Highway 15 nearby leads to Interstate 69 toward downtown Flint, 14 miles away. The Bishop International Airport is 15 miles away via Interstate 75. Health care isn’t far, as the Henry Ford Genesys Hospital is within 8 miles.
