Ranch homes and relaxed atmosphere near downtown Auburn

Just about a mile and a half east of downtown Auburn, Stage Road offers single-family homes in an old Auburn neighborhood. “It’s similar to the Mckinley Heights neighborhood that’s nearby,” says Richard Coffin, the broker, operating partner and cofounder of The Key Agency. “It’s a little nicer neighborhood, but it’s still an older neighborhood with a lot of single-family ranch-style homes.” Along with access to Auburn’s highly rated schools, Stage Road offers convenient access to routes throughout Auburn and Opelika with a classic neighborhood feel.

Neighborhood streets off Stage Road

Streets branch parallel off Stage Road, the neighborhood’s namesake. Evergreen trees tower over the mainly one-story homes, leaving some front yards carpeted with pine straw, especially so in the fall. Homes on the north end of the Stage Road neighborhood back up to train tracks. The sound of passing trains isn’t uncommon, nor is the sound of small private planes from Auburn University Regional Airport, a mile and a half away. Most of the ranch-style homes were built between the mid-1960s and 1970s and sell between the mid-$200,000s and mid-$300,000s. Newer cottages scatter through the southern portion of the neighborhood and sell from the mid-$300,000s to $400,000.

Hitting the links at Pines Crossing Golf Course

East of the neighborhood off University Drive, Duck Samford Park sits a mile away and is often packed with youth sports on weekends. The park has 10 baseball and softball fields, as well as two soccer fields and the football and soccer stadium for nearby Auburn High School. Golfers can head a mile and a half east to the Pines Crossing Golf Course, a public course that has been spotlighted by publications like Golf Digest. “They just redid that golf course,” Coffin says. “They renamed it, redid all the holes and the greens. It’s really nice now.” For recreation with less focus on sports, Chewacla State Park is 5 miles south and offers trails that lead to a waterfall, a lake open for swimming and campsites.
