Rural living with urban access

Located southeast of Aurora, Colorado, Elkhorn Ranch offers wide-open spaces and panoramic views of the Front Range away from the city's noise and congestion. Set on expansive five-acre lots, this neighborhood is about 35 miles southeast of downtown Denver – appealing for those who want to make the city a part of their day but not where they lay their heads at night. “It’s the sort of place where you can go out shopping and spot elk and foxes along the way,” says Jody O’Brien, broker associate with HomeSmart and longtime resident of the area. “It has that touch of rural feel to it, but you aren’t far from anything.”

Mountain Contemporary homes with plenty of room

Home styles include an array of custom estates, contributing to what locals call a “mountain contemporary” aesthetic. Additional styles range from modern-influenced ranch styles to new traditional two-stories, the latter of which often incorporate features like wrap-around porches, vaulted ceilings, and expansive windows that better highlight the mountain views. Home sizes typically range from 3,000 to over 5,000 square feet, and prices generally range from $800,000 to $1.7 million, with ranch-style and new traditional homes on the lower end. In comparison, larger estates start at around $1 million and rise depending on size, features, and lot additions like horse facilities or additional outbuildings. “The first thing I think of when I think of Elkhorn Ranch is the 5-acre lots,” says O’Brien. “You just have so much room, and it’s the kind of room where people can create their own little outdoor havens or turn an outbuilding into a mother-in-law suite.”
