Shaded streets lie near parks and shopping in Horseshoe Park

In Horseshoe Park, quiet streets are shaded by tree canopies, and well-maintained sidewalks offer easy access to parks and an extensive trail system. Around 3 miles from City Center, this Aurora neighborhood has a diverse housing stock and is bookended by shopping centers and local businesses. Commuting to Denver and nearby employers is straightforward, with Interstate 225 and Highway 83 close by.

Housing options and home prices

The area’s ranch-style, split-level and Colonial Revival homes were largely built in the 1970s and early ‘80s, and most have attached two-car garages and wide driveways. Fenced-in yards and lush landscaping are common, with many properties reaching over 10,000 square feet, which is rare on this side of town. Single-family homes start in the low $300,000s and reach the low $500,000s, with price tags increasing alongside square footage and recent renovations. On the neighborhood’s far east and west sides, complexes like Hearthstone, Residences on Helena, Chambers Ridge and Banyan Hollow offer two and three-bedroom townhomes and condos, with prices ranging from the mid-$100,000s to the mid-$400,000s.

Parks, trails and outdoor living

The community’s namesake park cuts through the center of the neighborhood, with baseball diamonds, a playground and open field space. If you’re in the mood for recreation with a bit more speed, you can head to the aptly named Wheel Park, which has a BMX track, a roller rink and a skate park. But as this is the Front Range, time spent outside is part of the lifestyle here. “The trail system here connects to the greater Denver area,” says Mark Kinslow II, an associate broker with KEY Real Estate Group who has been working in Aurora real estate for over 20 years. “It’s a great area for bikers, and the Toll Gate Trail connects to multiple paved trails that can take you to the state park, the Aurora Mall or into Denver.” The 3-mile West Toll Gate Creek Trail meets the Cherry Creek Trail system in the neighborhood, which extends southwest into the expansive Cherry Creek State Park. Park visitors can:

  • Hike, bike or horseback ride along scenic trails
  • Cast a line from a fishing pier
  • Take the dogs to the 100-acre off-leash area
  • Rent a paddle board for an afternoon on the Cherry Creek Reservoir
“It’s a great state park, with all the boating activities you could want,” says Kinslow. “There’s a shooting range, an RC plane field and a ton of walking trails. The dog park is also really popular. It can get crazy. I drive past it most days and sometimes you’ll see a line of cars waiting to enter the lot.”
