Kirkegaard Acres
Suburban Neighborhood in Aurora, Colorado
Arapahoe County 80011, 80018
Ranch-style homes on flat, fenced lots
Stretching over Aurora’s flat surface, grassy acres separate ranch-style homes and their fenced lots. “You’ve got all individual builds here on lots of at least an acre, and because of that, the prices can be all over the place,” says Jason Morris, a lifelong Aurora resident and Realtor with eXp Realty with over nine years of experience. “That’s a prized position – to have an acre or more lots.” These late 1980s homes’ prices depend on property size and bedroom count, listing roughly between $600,000 and $875,000. Between the fencing and spacing between homes, Kirkegaard Acres deters crime. In fact, the neighborhood scores a 2 out of 10 on the CAP Index Crime Score, which is lower than the national average score of 4.Candy Land play and sports competitions
Kirkegaard Acres fills its open space with outdoor and indoor recreation opportunities from the Aurora Sports Park soccer fields to the Beck Recreation Center. Travel and local soccer and baseball teams come to the sports park for competitions. “One thing cool about having sporting events is you get flyovers,” Morris says. “It can be loud but super cool.” The park’s 27 multiuse fields and 12 diamonds neighbor Springhill Park’s Candy Land-themed playground. “Our landscape architects pick different themes to keep things interesting and promote active, imaginative play,” says Sara Van Holbeck, Senior Supervisor of Marketing & Communications with the Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department. She adds that next door is the Beck Recreation Center, one of five recreation centers in Aurora, with a gymnasium where basketball and pickleball players compete. Swimmers use the center’s indoor pool, and event spaces can be rented. Golfers tee off at Springhill Golf Course, a compact 18-hole executive level course, next to the recreation center. “It’s great for people who like to walk as they play or sit and enjoy the open space,” Van Holbeck says. The grass is carefully maintained and watered, an essential task given that Kirkegaard Acres is a dry area with heightened fire risk.

Following the road north roughly 10 miles, travelers catch their domestic and international flights out of Denver International Airport. A 4-mile drive south leads to Buckley Space Force Base. Commutes to the Anschutz Medical Campus and the nearest Regional Transportation District (RTD) light rail station – Colfax Station – are also a 4-mile drive.East Colfax Avenue shopping and dining connections
East Colfax Avenue connects Kirkegaard Acres with shopping and dining in the west of town. Along the road, fast food chains such as Burger King and Wendy’s bag hot meals to enjoy before competitions at the sports complex. In the Chambers Plaza shopping center, grocery shoppers stock up on produce at King Soopers and stop for a bite of Italian flavors at Mama Alvino’s Pizzeria. Since 1980, this locally owned restaurant has dished the Alvino family’s recipes perfected in the late 1800s. Across Chambers Road, Mi Pueblo Market keeps its shelves stocked with authentic ingredients and foods from 11 countries, including Venezuela and Puerto Rico. When craving the warmth and spice of Mexican flavors without wanting to do the prep, La Costa Authentic Mexican Food is nearby with a dish to meet the craving.
