Stylish craftsman constructions
Craftsman-style homes and colonial revivals make up the majority of housing stock in Lakeshore, although buyers may spot extended ranch-style homes as well, especially in the western end of the neighborhood. Some homes feature Victorian touches like multiple front gable awnings resting above rounded windows, and many owners have opted to reduce their energy costs by adding solar panels to the roof. If any homebuyers enjoy the aesthetic of brickwork, they’ll find many homes that stand out against the blue lake with warm red and cream-colored patterns. Three-car garages offer plenty of space for sheltering both cars and workshop materials, and fenced-in backyards can accommodate patios for outdoor dining. Residents may even have room for a small in-ground pool, or they can take a summer dip in one of the two community pools. “Many of these homes were built in the early 1990s,” says Realtor Jason Morris of eXp Realty, who hosts a YouTube channel about living in Aurora. Properties at the top end of the $500,000 to $600,000 range in the community tend to be “homes around the lake that have a little more value and usually a slightly bigger lot,” according to Morris. Buyers who are able to snag one of these lakeside homes have direct access to the paved trails that wind around the lake, which are perfect for a morning dog walk or scenic evening stroll. Residents here are also steps away from the small playground and volleyball court that borders the water.

Top-tier indoor and outdoor recreation
When the weather turns chilly, locals can stay active by dropping into one of the indoor fitness classes at Central Recreation Center, one of Aurora’s newest rec centers. Visitors can join a pickup basketball game or swim laps in the pool, then learn a new recipe by attending a cooking class in this 55,000-square-foot facility. From here, one can hop on the trail that follows West Toll Gate Creek and head north to reach Horseshoe Park, a linear 10-mile park with calm creekside trails and baseball fields.

Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom has all the traditional pies, plus a few specialties if diners are feeling adventurous. Spice up the meal with the Thai pie, which includes a creative combination of Italian and Thai ingredients. Across the parking lot, locals can grab groceries at King Soopers.
