Decker Lane is a developing corner on Austin’s city limits

If recreation and highway access are high on your wish list, Decker Lane provides a prime location in a growing area on the edge of Austin. Named for the rustic thoroughfare that cuts through it, Decker Lane is where both recently built and deeply rooted properties orbit Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park, the city's largest park. Homes here are also minutes from the Manor Expressway and Pickle Parkway, which help residents access destinations like downtown Austin and the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport from an otherwise secluded enclave that spills into the neighboring city of Manor.

From rural-feeling lots to newer streets with sidewalks

Decker Lane has pockets of ranch-style homes dating to the 1950s and ’60s, and other sections with New Traditional- and contemporary-style houses built from the early 2000s through more recent years. Manufactured homes in the Oak Crest community add to the neighborhood’s variety. Some of Decker Lane's newest properties are clustered in the northeast corner of the neighborhood in the Trails at Wildhorse, part of the Wildhorse Ranch developments. "It's an up-and-coming area," says Summer Carter, who’s the founder and CEO of ATX Homes Sold with eXp Realty and has been an Austin resident since 2006. "There's a lot of people who have been there for a really long time and a lot of first-time homebuyers."

The older homes in Decker Lane have rural character and roomy lots, while the modern construction options offer a suburban atmosphere with sidewalk-lined streets. Most properties in the area sell for prices from the lower $300,000s to the mid-$400,000s, and HOA fees are typically under $70 per month.

Easy access to highways, downtown and the Austin airport

Decker Lane’s location is considered one of its biggest attractions. “It’s got highway proximity, and [access] to the airport is really fast,” says Melissa Hudson, who’s a local Realtor at eXp Realty and has about 14 years of industry experience. Downtown Austin is about 10 miles away, and you can use a combination of the Manor Expressway and Interstate 35 to get there. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is approximately 14 miles away, and the Pickle Parkway is the most convenient way to reach it. CapMetro bus stops along stretches like Daffan Lane add a public transportation option to the area.

Outdoor amenities are anchored by Austin’s largest park

The nearly 3,700-acre Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park fills much of the Decker Lane area and is the largest park in Austin. Lake Walter E. Long is the park’s signature feature, a 1,200-acre body of water where you can fish, swim and boat. The park has a pair of sand volleyball courts, too. The Travis County Exposition Center, adjacent to the park, hosts major events such as Rodeo Austin in March and the Big Travis County Fair in late August and early September. Other recreation attractions nearby include:

  • Ben E. Fisher Park, a spot with a couple of basketball courts, a playground and a picnic pavilion
  • Austin to Manor Trail, a nearly 6-mile paved path from Daffan Lane to Ben E. Fisher Park
  • Capital City Clays, a range that’s open to the public for skeet, trap and sporting clay shooting
  • Austin Tennis & Pickleball Center, a public center with 10 lighted tennis courts and eight lighted pickleball courts
  • Decker Tallgrass Prairie Preserve and the Louis René Barrera Indiangrass Wildlife Sanctuary, a pair of open tracts near Lake Walter E. Long that are not open to the general public, but are accessible through approved birding expeditions and other special

Mueller is a master-planned, mixed-use community that’s located about 10 miles away and is home to an H-E-B supermarket, The Home Depot, Best Buy and Marshalls, plus restaurants like:

  • Gino's Vino Osteria, an Italian restaurant with made-from-scratch pasta and bread
  • Spinning Buns, a burger joint that uses UFO-style sealed buns
  • Chi'Lantro, a Korean and Tex-Mex fusion spot
  • Jet’s Pizza, a place known for its Detroit-style square pizza
  • Tsuke Edomae, a sushi restaurant where you can sit down for a personalized omakase experience
