Long Canyon preserves its rural setting, with city conveniences nearby
Long Canyon embraces Hill Country scenery in a way that makes it feel like a long way from the rest of Texas’ capital city. The neighborhood’s spacious homes are surrounded by nothing but the peaks and valleys of rugged northwest Austin. Wide streets and acre-plus lots give residents space to breathe and add to the neighborhood’s rural feel. Yet the area is bordered to the northeast by Ranch to Market Road 2222, a thoroughfare that leads to some of the best of Austin. You can hop on 2222 and reach restaurants, grocery stores and public parks in a matter of minutes.
You can beat the heat by taking a swim at Emma Long Metropolitan Park.

Modern homes built to showcase the scenery
You’ll find a variety of imposing New Traditional-style homes around Long Canyon, built mostly in the 1980s and 1990s. Many of them are at least partially shrouded by trees and sit back from the road on lots that stretch anywhere from about an acre to almost 8 acres. Floor plans average 3,800 square feet, which easily tops the Austin-wide average of about 2,200 square feet. "The homes are a little larger than in some of the neighboring communities," says local Realtor Mason Bleasdell, who’s at Mark Martin and Company and has about eight years of industry experience. "They're built to take full advantage of all the area's surrounding beauty.” Common features include pools and covered patios, with built-in Hill Country views. Homes tend to sell for prices from about $1.2 million to $2.2 million. HOA fees are typically under $20 per month.
Recreation options surround the neighborhood
Outdoor recreation is, naturally, easy to find in this rustic area. The Balcones Canyonlands Preserve borders Long Canyon on three sides, part of a 32,000-acre system of land protecting local wildlife. The preserve has trails that are open through guided hikes. There are also multiple spots that you can explore on your own time, within 10 miles, including:
Bull Creek District Park, where you can access Bull Creek for a swim or take in sights of small waterfalls from the waterside trails
Emma Long Metropolitan Park, which sits along Lake Austin and is a draw for swimming, boating, hiking and fishing
Woodlands Park, a smaller spot on Lake Austin for a relaxing picnic by the water or to take the kids to the fully shaded playground
