Lined with eye-catching murals, locally owned shops and classic housing options, Old Town Avondale offers a small-town pace and a breath of fresh air in the West Valley.

Residents living in the Old Town area are not only minutes away from all the shops and dining in the area but can also take their pick from the wide range of available housing options. Many of the single-family homes were built in the 1950s, with ranch-style architecture that includes a shaded front patio area perfect for your cup of morning coffee. Newly built and recently remodeled homes are also available throughout the area, typically priced between $350,000 and $450,000. Houses often sit on spacious plots of land, with front yards that vary between low-effort, desert-style yards and homes with grass. These homes have spacious and modern interiors and often don’t come with HOA fees. You won’t have to worry about parking on the street if you buy a townhome in the area, as many units come with an enclosed garage space or carport.

Take a stroll down Western Avenue, the main thoroughfare for Old Town that features a variety of locally owned restaurants with picture-perfect murals along the way. Start your morning with a Vanilla Matcha and a waffle from Coldwater Coffeehouse, a favorite among locals in the area that offers a variety of breakfast and lunch menu options. Head to The Pasta Factory for a hearty, homemade-tasting plate of lasagna. If you’re in the mood for street tacos or a burrito, there are plenty of options around, including Rosendo’s Taco Shop, which is popular for its heaping carne asada plate as well as its street tacos. Western Avenue is also home to the Billy Moore Days festival, a multi-day celebration of Avondale’s history that includes a parade, live performances, a carnival and a full slate of Wild West shows throughout the weekend.

If you want to take a meal and enjoy it outside, there are plenty of parks around to soak in the sun. You can get your steps in for the day at Dessie Lorenz Plaza, filled with walking paths and shaded benches. Dennis Deconcini Park, named after a long-term US Senator, has plenty of green spaces perfect for a picnic, with towering trees to provide shade. You can play a pickup basketball game on the lighted court, and there’s also a playground area for children.

Public schools in the area are part of the Avondale Elementary and Agua Fria Union High School districts, offering parents a variety of high-ranking schools to choose from. Students will likely attend Eliseo C. Felix School in their early school years, followed by Avondale Middle School. Agua Fria High School has received an A- from Niche, with a 17 to 1 student-teacher ratio that allows for personalized learning. Students have an array of clubs and year-round sports, with options ranging from Coding Club to the NASA Club. Students can head to the Sam Garcia Western Avenue Library to check out the latest bestsellers or to work on their homework on one of the 40 public computers available.

There’s plenty to do nearby, including Coldwater Plaza and Palm Valley Pavilions, which are both a couple of miles away. Residents are also only minutes away from the 10, which puts the rest of the Valley at their fingertips.
