Annual seafood festivals and German Christmas markets
This coastal town hosts several annual events that the whole family can enjoy. Each October, Awendaw residents gather at Municipal Park to pick crabs, browse local vendors and listen at the town's Annual Blue Crab Festival. During the holiday season, families from all over Charleston head to Awendaw for the annual Christkindlmarkt, a German-inspired Christmas market offering a wide range of artisan merchants and traditional German cuisine. At the Annual Bulls Bay Nature Festival, residents can celebrate Awendaw's natural beauty with a variety of family-friendly activities that showcase the area's unique ecosystems and native wildlife.

Awendaw residents can take a short drive to The Shoppes at Park West to purchase groceries and other basics at the local Publix Supermarket. St. James Santee students showcase their artwork at the Bulls Bay Nature Festival
Awendaw students attend Charleston County schools. Children can start kindergarten at St. James Santee Elementary and Middle School, which receives an overall C-plus on Niche. St. James students showcase their creativity in a wildlife art exposition and competition at the Bulls Bay Nature Festival each year. After eighth grade, Awendaw teens can transition to Wando High School. Rated an overall A on Niche, this impressive high school was named a 2023 Capturing Kids' Hearts National Showcase School. Highway 17 takes residents to Historic Downtown Charleston and more
Highway 17 is a major route that runs through the middle of Awendaw, connecting the neighborhood to Downtown Historic Charleston and other surrounding areas. Residents can follow this main road to Interstate 526 and access the Charleston International Airport in about 45 minutes. The Roper St. Francis Hospital in North Mount Pleasant is less than 20 minutes away via Highway 17.
