Edison
Suburban Neighborhood in Bakersfield, California
Kern County 93306, 93307
Craftsman builds on large lots
Homes in Edison are mostly ranch-style Craftsman builds with a Mediterranean influence featuring stucco facades and tile roofs. There are a handful of California bungalows and split-levels. Prices range from $220,000 for renovation-ready homes with one bathroom to $500,000 for new builds with over 2,000 square feet. “The new construction and larger lot sizes are a big reason people would move here,” says Allison Kitchen of Kitchen Real Estate Services, who has sold over 70 properties in the area. “It feels so much less congested than the northwest or northeast sides of town.” Homes sit along quiet streets with wide, paved sidewalks. Many have private driveways and multi-car attached garages. Properties feature sizeable, fenced-in front and back lawns shaded by tall palm trees. There is a wildfire risk here and people are reminded to clear flammable debris from yards.Shopping at Mi Tierra Super Market
Mariscos Las Cazuelitas off Moring Drive is known for authentic Mexican Seafood. The lively restaurant has a Mariachi band that plays during the dinner rush. The neighborhood also features a large number of food trucks offering classic Latin cuisine, including Birrieria Los Patroncitos, Comida Oaxaquena and Mariscos Los Mochis. Shoppers can head to the Lowrider Lifestyle Swapmeet or the Dollar General off Morning Drive. Groceries are found at Mi Tierra Super Market, while Walmart and big box stores like Lowes are a couple of miles up Highway 184 in East Bakersfield.Playing at Pioneer Park
There are no parks located in Edison, but locals gather to play soccer or picnic at a large open green space off Breckenridge Road. In addition, there are a pair of parks nearby. Just a couple blocks west is Pioneer Park. Kids can climb on the playground or cool off on the splash pad. There are a pair of basketball courts to shoot hoops, as well as a walking path and a baseball diamond. A couple of miles up Kern Canyon Road is the Mesa Marin Sports Complex, which has four lighted softball fields, a playground and a dog park for pets to exercise.Air and heat issues
Due to Bakersfield’s large farming and agriculture industry, the area experiences a high number of days with poor air quality. In addition, the temperatures in Bakersfield and the surrounding areas often top out over 100 degrees in the summer.Learning at Foothill High

Edison Middle has a C-minus grade and features an 18-to-1 student-teacher ratio. Teens attend Foothill High, which has a C rating.
