From a bustling community plaza to balmy landscaping
Haggin Oaks is separated from a bustling community plaza by a cinderblock wall covered in greenery. Haggin Oaks Boulevard breaks through the barrier, entering this secluded oasis. As the road continues south, the already sleek-looking mansions become monumental, growing to twice their size as the balmy landscape finds an added layer of complexity. Haggin Oaks is the kind of neighborhood where a stone fountain is a courtyard centerpiece, and lion statues stand guard at the end of driveways. "This is my favorite part of town," says Evelyn Martinez, Realtor at Agentcor Realty. "I love homes like this. They're classic older homes with character and beautiful landscaping."
Architecture with Mediterranean influence
Contemporary and expansive ranch-style homes have Mediterranean influences with tile roofs and turret rooms. With features like this on an impressive scale, homes in Haggin Oaks reference classical architecture from an ancient era of Europe. “Resort-style living is trending throughout the region, so a lot of these communities have gyms, pools, hiking trails and even an activity center,” says Gary Carruesco, a Realtor at Brimhall Realty. Home prices begin around $350,000 and reach up to $1 million. Contemporary homes cost between $380,000 and $740,000. Ranch-style houses often have the exterior of a French-influenced farmhouse with low-hanging roofs, bulky chimneys and pointed towers. Prices range from $460,000 to $1 million, part of the difference being that ranch-style homes can double in size and price depending on their proximity to Haggin Oaks Park or The Marketplace. Haggin Oaks Villas is a gated community of ranch-style homes. Prices range from $380,000 to $590,000. In gated communities like Parkside Townhomes, prices fall between $250,000 and $290,000, while condos cost around $260,000 to $280,000.

Bakersfield's air quality
Kern County produces a significant portion of the country's oil and petroleum through drilling and is commonly known as the "energy capital of California." As a result, Bakersfield struggles with high air pollution. However, new initiatives are in place to improve the city's air quality. "I've been here for 30 years, and it's gotten much better. Mostly, it's pollution funneling down into the Bakersfield valley, but the rain clears it up quickly. I don't notice it much anymore," says Bart Tipton, a Broker at Prestige Properties with 13 years of experience in the area.
