In Ridgeview Estates, residents will find quiet living in California’s southern Central Valley while staying close to nearby Bakersfield. Comprised almost entirely of homes and located just southwest of the main city, Ridgeview Estates is within the vicinity of shopping and dining outlets for its residents, and it’s just a quick drive to Bakersfield proper for anything the city has to offer. “It’s south of Bakersfield, where the town has expanded to,” says William Gordon, a Realtor with Watson Realty and Gordon Team Realty. “It’s close to shopping like Costco and WinCo, and there’s easy access to Highway 99 from there to get around town.”
Ranch homes with amenities
Many ranch homes can be found in the Ridgeview Estates neighborhood along with numerous multi-level properties. Spanish revival elements are featured in the designs of some of the homes, while garages are another of the amenities included with many of the houses. The properties may also include a pool, palm trees, solar panels atop the roof or wide driveways, as well as stone accenting, shutters on the windows and manicured lawns. The primary selling point of residences in Ridgeview Estates falls between $300,000 and $500,000, while a few outliers have sold for as low as around $250,000 or as high as over $600,000.

Well-regarded schools with athletic opportunities
Berkshire Elementary School hosts students from kindergarten through sixth grade, receiving a rating of B-minus from Niche with a student-to-teacher ratio of 28 to one. Stonecreek Junior High School then receives those students within the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District, providing seventh- and eighth-grade educations for its enrollment. Ridgeview High School completes the educational curve in Ridgeview Estates, receiving a B-plus from Niche. Ridgeview High is also rated Niche’s most standout school in Bakersfield, and offers sports like water polo in the fall, cheerleading in the winter and a recent championship-winning baseball team in the spring.

Parks and sports facilities close by
No specific, established parks lie within Ridgeview Estates’ borders, but there’s at least one park not too far from each corner of the rectangular neighborhood. To the northwest is Seasons Park, which features a playground, basketball court and dog park, and to its east is Challenger Park, which also has a court to play hoops on and a playground. Half a mile south of Stonecreek Junior High is Stonecreek Park, with plenty of open space for exercise or a pickup game of baseball or football along with playgrounds, a basketball court and a walking path spanning about half the park. The Ultimate Drive, just north of Ridgeview Estates, is a popular driving range that also offers lessons, memberships and golf equipment repairs.
The Palms Shopping Center and local staples
At The Palms Shopping Center, located at the northeastern corner of Ridgeview Estates, residents will find a number of restaurants and retail outlets. Mandy’s Café is a local favorite for brunch offerings, while the Just Wing It sports bar has a full-service bar, Asada fries and more for its patrons while airing the biggest games on its televisions. Other outlets in the shopping center include the Soy & Spice Café, serving Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese food, as well as the El Patron Bar and Grill and chains like Subway. Just to the east of Ridgeview Estates is another local staple in Kwality Ice Cream, an Indian ice cream shop that also serves chaat to its customers.

Museums for science and history
For more than 80 years, the Kern County Museum has served the public as an archive of the area’s history in the Central Valley. Visitors to the museum can learn about California’s role in the history of the country, and reach it from Ridgeview Estates in just about 20 minutes. Located just outside of the heart of Bakersfield, the museum also features the Lori Brock Children’s Discovery Center, where attendees can learn about STEM, science and more. Various farmers markets are also featured in the area, and the Bakersfield region is known for its contributions to music history. “We’re famous for the ‘Bakersfield Sound’ in music,” says Autumn Mitchell, a Realtor and real estate executive with Tobias Real Estate, “which was made famous by Buck Owens and others.”

Heading up the valley
Though Ridgeview Estates is more residential and removed from any highways crossing through it, residents don’t have to go far to hop on State Route 99. That highway unfolds for almost 400 miles throughout nearly the entirety of the valley, connecting Bakersfield with cities like Delano, Sacramento, Manteca and Stockton. The on-ramps to the highway are about 10 minutes away from the farthest point of Bakersfield, making for easy access for drivers. Golden Empire Transit, or GET, also operates buses within the Greater Bakersfield area that help residents get from place to place in Ridgeview Estates or otherwise.
