Stockdale Country Club
Golf course-front homes
No two houses in Stockdale Country Club are the same, with subdivisions on the neighborhood’s west side featuring 1970s and ‘80s ranch style architecture and homes lining its namesake boasting elegant Colonial and Greek Revival influences, some dating back to the early 1900s. Despite their differences, housing costs are similarly high in both new and old areas, and “prices are rising,” says Alex Daredia, a local real estate agent with Century 21 Jordan-Link & Company. “Stockdale is a more expensive area surrounded by a nice neighborhood, which, unlike other country club neighborhoods here, increases value. With an average sales price of $570,000, Stockdale Country Club is more affordable than the neighboring community of Stockdale Estates but remains around $150,000 more than the average Bakersfield Home. Homes priced between $440,000 and $550,000 often have three bedrooms, quarter-acre lots and less than 3,000 square feet, while 3,000 to 5,000-square-foot homes with luxurious interiors and half-acre lots are adorned with price tags ranging from $600,000 to $950,000. Most back yards are fenced in and feature in-ground swimming pools.
The namesake club
The Stockdale Country Club was founded in the 1920s on the old estate of William Tevis, who built his 9,000-square-foot mansion where the golf course’s 10th green now stands. Along with its verdant, 18-hole golf course, the club is home to tennis and pickleball courts and a fitness center. The forged iron gate on the corner of Stockdale Highway and Hidden Lane is over 100 years old and has survived multiple devastating fires on the property. Kroll Park is a short walk west and has a playground, picnic tables and an enclosed, 2-acre off-leash dog park.B-plus public schools
All homes here are within a 15-minute walk of Stockdale Elementary School, which lies in the neighborhood’s center. Stockdale Elementary serves kindergarten through sixth grade students and earns a B-plus overall grade from Niche. O.J. Actis Junior High School serves seventh and eighth graders and has a B-minus rating. The B-plus rated Bakersfield High School offers dozens of elective programs, ranging from forensics and theater to apparel design and woodworking. For book lovers, the Southwest Branch of the Kern County Library hosts book sales, game nights and movie nights for the whole family. The Town and Country Village shopping center
Another facet of Stockdale’s desirability is its proximity to The Town and Country Village shopping center, a bustling shopping center just north of California State University Bakersfield’s campus. Trader Joe’s and Albertsons sit across the parking lot from each other, while local eateries dot the area. Blue Elephant Thai Cuisine is a family-owned establishment serving up authentic Thai cuisine. A short walk away, Sultans Mediterranean Grill serves classic Greek, Turkish and Middle Eastern dishes. On Sunday mornings year-round, the Haggin Oaks Farmers Market hosts dozens of vendors selling plants, produce, baked goods and more, often accompanied by live music.Getting to downtown Bakersfield
It takes less than 15 minutes to reach downtown Bakersfield from Stockdale Country Club, with Truxtun Avenue serving as the quickest route. Additionally, there are two bus stops along Gosford Road and Stockdale Highway, both served by Golden Empire Transit.
