In Stockdale Estates, a community anchored by the Stockdale Country Club, large lawns and quiet, tree-shaded lanes bring a sense of calm not typically found in Bakersfield’s downtown neighborhoods. “This area is anchored by the country club,” says William Gordon, a Realtor with Watson Realty who has been selling homes in Bakersfield for over 15 years. “The neighborhood was developed in the 1920s through the 1980s, so there’s a wide range of homes and remodels.”

The Stockdale Country Club is a private, invite-only club with monthly dues ranging from $60 to $100. Members enjoy year-round access to the club’s 18-hole, palm-tree-lined golf course, driving range, tennis courts and pickleball courts. Members also have access to the club’s laid-back bar and dining room. The Stockdale Country Club holds several annual events open to the public, including a Holiday Shopping Boutique featuring goods from local vendors. Members enjoy access to social events such as winemaker dinners and the club’s annual Family Fun Day Carnival held in October. Kroll Park is a quick drive west and is home to a playground, picnic tables and an enclosed off-leash dog park. While the community has much to offer regarding outdoor recreation, Bakersfield has historically been challenged with high levels of air pollution. “Some days you can see the distant mountains,” Gordon Says, “but other days you don't even realize you’re surrounded by mountains in three directions.”

Unique extracurriculars at Bakersfield High
Stockdale Elementary School is within walking distance of the neighborhood and earns a B-plus overall grade and is the 16th - best public elementary school in the Bakersfield area, according to Niche. O.J. Actis Junior High School serves seventh and eighth graders and has a B-minus rating. The neighborhood is a 15-minute drive from the B-plus-rated Bakersfield High School. Home of the Drillers, Bakersfield High offers over 50 extracurricular programs, including clubs centered around topics like geology, animation and surfing.

Here, locals pick up their groceries and household essentials at Vons or drive north to Stockdale Highway to swing by Target or Sprouts Farmers Market. Lengthwise Brewing Company offers up classic pub fare, from steak sandwiches to fish and chips, along with over 20 rotating craft beers on tap. Mama Tosca’s Restorante Italiano has is a family-owned establishment that has been serving up authentic Italian cuisine since it opened over 40 years ago.
