A small community in southern Bakersfield
Stone Creek is a neighborhood with a synonymous green space near the outskirts of south Bakersfield. With its uniform streets and homes sitting close together behind well-groomed front lawns, it has the feel of a typical suburban neighborhood. “Stone Creek has custom homes that were mostly built in the early 2000s and late 90s,” says Shanti Brinsfield, a Realtor with Watson Realty who has over two decades of experience in Bakersfield. “They’re considered nicer homes than neighboring communities, situated on nicely-sized lots.” The community is currently growing, with new homes, shopping centers and schools like nearby Crestview Elementary School, which opened for the 2023-24 school year. “There’s a lot of new construction here,” says Teresa Taylor, a Realtor with Scott Rivera Real Estate Team who’s sold homes locally for over a decade. Other than its expansion, one of Stone Creek’s attractions is its closeness to Los Angeles compared to other Bakersfield neighborhoods. “There’s proximity to LA. It’s not as close as Valencia, but a lot of people move here to commute easily,” Taylor says.
Early 2000s homes with stone exteriors
Stone Creek has a mix of newly-constructed homes and late 1990s and early 2000s single-family properties priced between $360,000 and $650,000. Prices depend on size and renovations; some homes have upgrades like in-ground pools and custom fireplaces. Most properties have stone exterior detailing and are separated from one another by white vinyl fences with arched tops. The streets have a suburban feel, with polished lawns and wide sidewalks shaded by short and tall palm trees. Depending on size, homes have one or two-door garages and paved driveways.
New traditional two story homes can also be found in Stone Creek.

Air pollution in Bakersfield
Bakersfield’s air quality is polluted because of its geography; it’s positioned in a valley near the mountains, which traps pollution. Since agriculture is prevalent throughout Bakersfield, dust gets trapped in the air. Kern County is also the biggest oil-producing area in California. The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District has programs like Park and Ride, which encourage developers to build commuter lots and decrease vehicle usage.
