Living in Tevis Ranch
Formerly an area where farmers harvested vegetables, Tevis Ranch flaunts stunning architecture alongside the Seven Oaks master-planned community. "Tevis Ranch used to be all farms," says Evelyn Martinez, Realtor at Agentcor Realty, who has lived in Bakersfield for over 20 years. "We have lots of agriculture here. We grow carrots, strawberries, almonds, cotton and oranges. Little by little, farmland is developing into homes, and the southwest is the way it's growing." In the 1900s, the Bolthouse family took their carrot farming operation to California in search of a better life. Now, Bolthouse Farms markets vegetable smoothies and other produce-related products in supermarkets across the nation. The company is also a significant investor in Bakersfield's infrastructure, building retail centers like Mustang Square in Tevis Ranch.
Most of the homes in Tevis Ranch were built in the late 20th century.
Tevis Ranch residents have the opportunity to join the nearby Seven Oaks Country Club.

Single-story homes with stucco siding
Streets break off from the main road, heading into residential Tevis Ranch, where homes are in communities centered around cul-de-sacs filled with palm trees and diverse architecture. Homes often have beige stucco siding, red or gray tile roofs and front-facing columns connected by arches, reminiscent of the city’s Mediterranean influence. Tevis Ranch encompasses Craftsman and modern ranch-style homes. Craftsman-style homes start around $300,000 and reach about $650,000, while modern ranch-style homes range from $340,000 to $600,000. Club View Estates has sprawling single-level Craftsman homes with in-ground pools on quarter-acre lots. Prices range from $440,000 to $640,000.
The Craftsman style is well known for the floor layout and earth-tone colors.

Air Pollution in Bakersfield
Kern County is the "energy capital of California," with a history of oil and petroleum production. As a result, the area may be subject to lesser air quality than other parts of the state. However, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District has implemented incentives to help combat the issue, such as rebates for buying electric vehicles and implementing no-burn days.
