Suburban setting southwest of downtown Bakersfield
About 8 miles southwest of downtown Bakersfield, there's a neighborhood where some streets have a seasonal theme, with names like Summer Solstice Drive, Spring Blossom Street and Winter Ridge Drive. This is The Seasons, a quiet residential pocket of the city. Homes sit beside tidy sidewalks, palms, pines and manicured front lawns. Aside from Harris Road, which runs through the center of the neighborhood, streets are short, many are curved, and there are numerous cul-de-sacs, making for quiet streets and a walkable environment.
The Seasons' contemporary and manufactured homes
Contemporary, single-family homes built from the 1990s to the 2020s have a variety of exterior styles, using two-tone color schemes, paneling, siding or brick and stone. Others have Mediterranean touches like clay tile roofing and stucco finishes. Most homes have driveways and attached garages; some have solar-paneled roofs and private pools. Prices range from $280,000 to $530,000. "The homes here are more modern, newer builds than in the surrounding areas," says Jose Torres, a Realtor at Re/Max Golden Empire with over five years of experience in Bakersfield.
Fountain Springs Estates has manufactured homes dating to the 1970s and '80s. They range from $200,000 to $283,000. Lot ownership is part of the purchase; this is not always true for manufactured home communities. The homeowners association's monthly fee is $85, and it covers water and the maintenance of streets and common areas.

Rancho Grande also hosts events: "We have NFL Sunday Ticket. Every year, we have an event in October to celebrate our anniversary. There will be live music for that. We hold a Cinco de Mayo celebration as well."

GET buses, state Route 99, Amtrak and flights
Golden Empire Transit (GET) has bus routes with stops on streets like Harris Road and Panama Lane. State Route 99 — the Golden State Highway — is close by, to the east. "The Seasons is a big commuter area, as Bakersfield is kind of the hub between Fresno and LA," Torres says. "Route 99 can take residents to either city in about 2 hours." Amtrak service is available from the Bakersfield Station on Truxtun Avenue downtown.
From the Seasons, it's about 13 miles to Meadows Field Airport, which has passenger service on American Airlines and United. Bakersfield Municipal Airport is about 6 miles away and is used for general aviation purposes. Major airports, like Hollywood Burbank Airport and LAX, are within a 100-mile drive.
