Between city and county
Located on the city line in Northeast Baltimore, the neighborhood of Cedmont enjoys the best of two worlds. “In Cedmont, you’re living in the city but have the benefits of living near the county,” says William Savage, an associate broker with Keller Williams Legacy, who specializes in the area. “Baltimore city changes from block to block. Being on the outskirts gives you a good mix of city diversity and culture with the suburban character of the county.” For residents, that means less traffic, less crime and quieter overall living. In fact, Cedmont ties the U.S. national average on crime, receiving a 4 from the CAP Index, which indicates crime is less of an issue for this border community.
No two homes are alike
Housing in Cedmont features single-family homes, duplexes, and rowhouses as diverse as their neighborhood. Prospective buyers will find American Craftsman designs like cozy bungalows and ramblers, as well as Cape Cods and Dutch colonials. Most homes here were built before 1950 and feature charming details like wide front porches, wood siding or red-brick facades. Listing prices range from $125,000 for a duplex to $430,000 for a large five-bedroom colonial. “Cedmont is one of the more historic neighborhoods in the city,” Savage says, “so homes aren’t cookie cutter here. From Tudors to Victorians, they’re unique.” Since some parts of the neighborhood flood during heavy downpours, homebuyers are advised to ask about flood insurance before making an offer.

Watering holes and specialty shops
Belair Road features a dozen watering holes, such as Socialize Liquors and Wine Bar, a spot to have a cocktail and take home a bottle, or Mixers, a local gay bar with friendly bartenders and drink specials. “People go to locally owned pubs in the neighborhood instead of big chains like Fridays,” Savage says. “On nice days, you’ll also see them visiting shops within walking distance.” Amazing Grace International Clothing and Fabrics sells jewelry, wigs, and men’s outfits, and Legacy Cigar Lounge was designed for after-work smokes or a place to stock up. Residents can get groceries at Aldi down the street or Bella Mart, which is more of a convenience store.
Socialize Liquors and Wine Bar not only sells a variety of spirits but also has a sit down bar.
Buck Fowler's Tavern is a popular spot for locals to gather for a cold beer and great company.
Franks Pizza and Pasta has been a staple in the community for all things Italian since 1985.
