The community of Eastwood in Southeast Baltimore is a mixed-use area encompassing sections of Eastern Avenue, Interstate I-95 and several residential blocks just west of Dundalk. Known as one of the smallest communities in Baltimore, Eastwood’s history dates back to the early 1940s and 50s and corresponds to the industrial boom. As the area became inundated with workers employed by industries like Bethlehem Steel, Western Electric and GM, so too did the need for housing grow. Evolving from there, this tiny community of row houses grew to meet the city’s demand.
Today, Eastwood is a densely populated urban community comprised of traditional-style Baltimore row houses. Featuring two stories and red brick facades, these homes also feature short, roofed front porches and small front lawns. The average sales price here is $180,000, with price points varying depending on the age, size and condition of the property. Homes in Eastwood are situated six to ten feet away from the curb and feature sidewalks leading up to their entryways. Front yards here are tidy and well-manicured and many feature lawn ornaments like faux-deer, flamingos, and glass orbs. Front porches are adorned with flower boxes and chairs for taking in the evening breeze.
Students in Eastwood attend Baltimore City Schools, like Graceland Park/O’Donnell Heights Elementary/Middle and Patterson High School. Serving over 1300 students in ninth through twelfth grades, Patterson High School touts itself as the most diverse school in the city. And with students from all different backgrounds, Patterson High School works hard to promote collaboration and understanding across an array of cultures, as well as a variety of academic, athletic and career programs.
For all your daily essentials, nearby Eastern Avenue offers residents quick access to everything they might need. You’ll find a Savemart Supermarket, a Home Depot and a variety of casual eateries to choose from. Grab a cheeseburger from Wendy's, order take-out from China East or treat yourself to some 'surf and turf' at Michael's Steak and Lobster House. For a change of pace and a wider variety of cuisines, pop plan an outing to neighboring Greektown where you'll find both traditional Greek fare as well as a diverse selection of Central and South American options.
For some time outdoors, residents can enjoy local green spaces like the Eastwood Community Park. A narrow strip of green stretching along Quinton Avenue, this pocket-park is ideal for those looking for a playground for the little ones, or some quiet time to reflect. For the more athletic members of your household, the larger Eastwood Park, located just below the area's water tower, features the 'Bob Nozeika Playground," spacious baseball fields and basketball courts for all types of play.
Another perk of living in Eastwood? It’s convenient! Residents enjoy their direct proximity to amenities like the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Less than a short 10-minute drive away, the Bayview Medical campus features a level II trauma center, a pediatric center for emergencies and the only regional burn unit in the area. In addition to having healthcare options close by, Eastwood is also located right next to I-95 and I-895, which means you can get Downtown, into the burbs, or anywhere you please pretty fast.
