Age-old rowhouses and rentals in mixed-use developments
Brick rowhouses built from the mid-19th century through the end of World War II, though a handful of new millennium constructions are also available. Home prices range from the upper $100,000s to the mid-$600,000s, varying by square footage, remodel status, and home age. There are slightly more renters than homeowners in Hampden, who can reside in rowhouses or in newer apartment complexes, such as those located at The Rotunda. “It’s not really too much of a campus area, it might have people who work at the university, but there isn’t really student housing specifically,” says James Baldwin, a Realtor with Compass with over 18 years of experience serving Maryland. “It’s more known for its early 1900s Baltimore classic rowhouses, many of which have been remodeled.”

The Avenue is the place to be whenever Hampden hosts some of Baltimore’s most beloved festivals. Hampden Highlights is a new, free, community-centric street festival. By bringing food, art, and music to the Hampden area, Hampden Highlights aims to showcase local vendors, restaurants, and artists. Hampden’s First Fridays is a monthly event where you can browse local retailers, grab drinks and socialize with your neighbors. Come fall, Hampdenfest hosts an assortment of unusual events, including a toilet bowl race and a pie-eating contest, and guests can enjoy live music. In December, Hampden’s Miracle on 34th Street is a holiday light showcase where people can stroll through the streets and view homes adorned with bright, neon decorations.
