Lake Evesham suburb 8 miles from Downtown Baltimore
Despite its name, this residential Baltimore neighborhood is void of lakes, but riddled with nearby amenities. Featuring Prairie and Craftsman style homes, neighborhood social events and a European-style marketplace just a few blocks away, Lake Evesham attracts homebuyers looking for a quiet, close community. “Lake Evesham has charm while still sitting inside Baltimore City Limits,” says Realtor Allison Dickinson with Cummings & Co. Realtors, who has about 20 years of experience in the area. Residents have access to Baltimore City Public Schools, community associations and other services and facilities. Dickinson describes the community as “small, neighborly, historic and active,” due to its small-town nature and proximity to Downtown Baltimore, Towson and Yorktown.
Lake Evesham has many shopping and eating options at Belvedere Square Market.

Century-old architecture in Lake Evesham
Lake Evesham has 1920s-style bungalows, which is the most common architecture style aside from Cape Cods. “All of the houses are unique. No two are exactly alike,” explains Mike Fielder, long-time resident and Realtor with the Key Home Team of Berkshire Hathaway. Four Squares, Dutch Colonials, Tudor cottages and wood-shingled Victorians also dot the map, with the occasional townhouse community. Detached homes are spread out, and most feature details like painted shutters, decorative shingles, large front porches and ample yard spaces. The average cost of a home in Lake Evesham is $450,000 with price points varying depending on the age, size and condition of the property. Townhouse options typically fall between $250,000 and $350,000. “Most of the homes here are almost 100 years old and are relatively affordable for the area. You get the old world feel, but houses are also very cozy and updated,” Dickinson says.

Big-box stores, Belvedere Square and The Senator Theater
One of the most popular attractions in North Baltimore is Belvedere Square Market: a revered commercial hub featuring restaurants, boutiques and an extensive food market. For comfort food, Atwater’s has coffee, soup and gourmet sandwiches on house-baked bread. Those who lack a sweet tooth can visit Neopol Savory Smokery, which serves up smoked meats, seafood and cheese pies that fly off the shelves. Come springtime, the outdoor courtyard seating fills up quickly, especially during Friday night Summer Sounds’ live music from May to September. Drawing 10,000 visitors a week, this year-round market is just across York Road from Lake Evesham. A couple doors down is the historic Senator Theater, which screens cult classics, oldies and new releases in an Art Deco building erected in 1939. Visitors here see films in a laid-back atmosphere, sitting in old-school plush folding chairs, accompanied by local food offerings, such as made-to-order eats and drinks from Clark Burger. Giant Food, Walgreens, Target and Walmart all sit within 4 miles of the neighborhood for groceries and other everyday essentials. Retail options, such as Macy’s and Nordstrom, can also be found 3 miles north at Towson Town Center.
