The community of Rosemont Avenue in Northeast Baltimore is a quiet neighborhood featuring charming homes and lots of open spaces. “People who buy here are looking for larger houses that have yards and a sense of community,” explains Naomi Reetz, a longtime Baltimore resident and Realtor with Cummings & Co. “And the homes aren’t all cookie cutters.” Located north of Cedmont, the neighborhood is insulated from much of downtown Baltimore’s busyness. Homebuyers who like the status quo would be pleased to know the neighborhood looks pretty much the same today as it has for years. “It’s a stable neighborhood. It’s been around for years,” says Sterling France, owner of Fran-Coa Real Estate & Management, LLC, a 40-year real estate veteran and longtime Baltimore resident. “It would be a good neighborhood for first-time homebuyers because they are well-kept homes, most are brick so they hold their value.”

Curb appeal Rosemont style

Housing options in Rosemont Avenue consist of detached single-family homes in a variety of styles. Prospective buyers can choose from American Craftsman designs like cozy bungalows and ramblers, or opt for Cape Cods, American Foursquares or the larger Dutch Colonials. The majority of homes in Rosemont Avenue were built before 1950 and feature charming details like wrap-around front porches, mature trees and well-manicured yards. “Generally, the neighborhood does have a lot of curb appeal because homeowners keep their fronts nice. Mainly, they have large yards in the back and people like that,” France says. The median price for a single-family home is around $300,000 with homes selling from $210,000 to $360,000.

5ks on Saturdays

Aligning near Gwynns Falls and Leakin Parks, Rosemont residents might take advantage of activities there like the Free 5k Run and Walk that takes place every Saturday at 9:00 a.m. While the weekly event is billed as a “run” it isn’t so much a race as a walk for good health or, for more serious runners, to track their times. It features a social event that follows. The park also is the site of the annual Baltimore Herb Festival, which raises funds for Winans Chapel in Leakin Park and promotes the benefits of growing herbs and using them.

A thoroughfare named Belair

Rosemont’s main traffic concern is Route 1, known locally as Belair Road, which is a major thoroughfare in Baltimore. And while the volume of traffic may vary during different day parts, it’s not uncommon to see heavy traffic during peak commuting hours. Of course, if a commuter elects not to drive, public transportation options are available with MTA (Maryland Transit Authority) operating buses along Belair, Fleetwood and Northern Parkway.
