Little City
Larger yards and Colonial Revival homes
Many homes in Little City were built in the early to mid-1900s and are Colonial Revival, Victorian and New Englander inspired, with mansard roofs and wood panel siding exteriors. Lot sizes in the neighborhood can vary, and some homes take up almost the entire space and feature large lawns with long driveways. “Many houses here have backyards, especially compared to a lot of other parts of Bangor where the lots are smaller,” Baldwin says. Paved sidewalks under the shade of mature maple and cherry trees connect many of the homes in the neighborhood. Prices often range between $200,000 and $575,000.Local Bangor coffee and pizza spots
Little City residents can start their mornings at Wicked Brew, a café and coffee shop just south of the neighborhood that is women-owned and family-run. The café is known for its cozy, artistic setting and varied options, including Greek and Turkish coffees, house-made tea blends and fresh scones. Blaze Bangor is less than a mile from the neighborhood's southern end and offers wood-fired flavors ranging from pork belly lollipops to spicy chicken sandwiches. Shoppers can head less than 2 miles north to the Broadway Shopping Center where they'll find a Hannaford and a TJ Maxx.Bangor Public Schools and Met Opera partnerships
Students in kindergarten through third grade can head to Fruit Street School, which receives an A-minus rating from Niche and is a Blue Ribbon School. They can then attend the Mary Snow School for grades four and five, which receives a B-plus rating on Niche, before continuing to the William S. Cohen School, which also receives an A-minus rating. The final stop for many students is the B-plus-rated Bangor High School. The school focuses on the arts and is known for being one of the country's 66 Met Opera Partner Schools, allowing students to enjoy current Met productions and speak to composers.Little City Park and nearby recreation
Little City Park is located in the center of the neighborhood and is the home of recreation for residents. The park has tennis courts and picnic tables alongside a blue playset on an open field. Broadway Park, just to the east of the neighborhood, is home to a fitness park and walking trails for dogs and their owners. The park also hosts several events, including outdoor concerts and movie nights for kids.Bangor State Fair and the Zillman Art Museum
Residents of Little City are less than a mile away from the Zillman Art Museum, which is part of the University of Maine and the only modern and contemporary art museum north of Portland. The museum rotates its exhibits every three to four months and has had pieces from local artists and international names like Andy Warhol. Residents are also a short trip from annual downtown events, the largest of which is the Bangor State Fair. One of the oldest in the country, the fair has been a tradition since 1849. It occurs over two weekends in August and is jam-packed with events and activities, including carnival rides, demolition derbies and tractor pulls. Downtown is also home to the Maine Savings Amphitheater and Cross Insurance Center, two spaces with year-round events such as monster truck rallies and concerts.Local trails and roads
Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 2, also known as State Street, line the northern and southern ends of the neighborhood and provide access to nearby towns and cities. Broadway is east of the community and one of the main roads to downtown Bangor. Many of the residential streets in the neighborhood have paved sidewalks, allowing residents to walk downtown or to the nearby Kenduskeag Stream Trail. “No matter where you are, you are always pretty walkable to downtown,” Baldwin says. St. Joseph Hospital is on the neighborhood's eastern end, and the Bangor International Airport is less than 4 miles to the west.
