Parks and schools add to Northeast Battle Creek's small-town feel
Northeast Battle Creek is a primarily residential area between downtown convenience and green spaces. Some homes are within walking distance of the downtown business district. The neighborhood has multiple parks that bring the community together through athletics. “Although we aren't considered a small town, we have a small-town feel,” says Morgan Damron-Patterson, an agent with RE/MAX Perrett Associates who sells throughout the city. The neighborhood is home to Kellogg Community College and Battle Creek Central High School. It’s also the location of Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.

Neighborhood blends 1920s charm and diverse architecture
Merritt Woods Historic District has Tudor and Colonial Revival homes close to downtown. “It has a Frank Lloyd Wright feeling," says Damron-Patterson. These historic homes range from $224,000 to $430,000. Other subdivisions in the area have a mix of bungalows, ranch-style homes and traditional two-story houses with Craftsman and Prairie architecture. Housing prices range from $50,000 to $290,000. On average, lot sizes are smaller than a quarter of an acre. Large trees shade the streets, which typically have sidewalks.

Students may qualify for a full college scholarship at BCPS
Battle Creek Public Schools' attendance zones vary from street to street, so homebuyers should confirm zoning before purchasing a home. Students can apply to transfer to other schools within the district. Most students can attend Post Franklin Elementary for kindergarten through second grade and Verona Elementary for third through fifth grade. Both schools have a C-minus rating on Niche. Some students may be zoned for C-minus-rated Dudley School for kindergarten through second grade. Northwestern Middle earns a C-minus rating, while Battle Creek Central High School has a C-plus.
Students who spend all four years of high school at BCPS are eligible for the Bearcat Advantage scholarship, which covers all tuition and fees at specific colleges and universities. “Battle Creek Central is a big school that has a lot of offerings and diversity,” Damron-Patterson says. Battle Creek Academy is an A-minus-rated Adventist school for all grades.

Parks offer baseball, play areas for dogs and walking trails
There are several green spaces in the area, including Bailey Park. “The park has a ton of baseball fields, so there are a lot of tournaments," Damron-Patterson says. "On Saturdays, every restaurant is packed with traveling teams." Piper and Quaker parks are smaller parks in the neighborhood. The latter pays tribute to the city’s religious history. One walking path at Linear Park leads to the Wagner Drive Waterfall. There are many trails for walking dogs throughout the area, but pets can also play at the Home Run Dog Park. The Kalamazoo River is used for canoeing and fishing in the summer, and indoor activities when the weather is cold can be found at the local YMCA.
Wide open spaces can be found throughout Home Run Dog Park perfect for active dogs.

Downtown Battle Creek is a short walk or drive away. "The downtown strip has several restaurants, including a nice brewery with outdoor seating,” Damron-Patterson says. Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport is under 30 miles west.
