Close to shopping, close to hiking
Indian Valley was built among the foothills that grow into the steep, forested slopes of Big Rock Ridge. This Novato suburb is close to trailheads and nature preserves, all within a couple of miles of a major highway and shopping areas. It’s about two miles from downtown Novato and its walkable shopping and dining district.
Homes tucked into the foothills
Homes in Indian Valley start around $850,000 and reach $2 million. Houses range in style, from mid-century modern ranch homes to Mediterranean-style estates. The streetscapes are often thick with trees, and lawns tend to be well-kept, and some acre-sized lots are available the closer the home is to the hills. Some of the neighborhood’s roads wind and curve up steep-for-the-suburbs hills and end in secluded cul-de-sacs. These private spots provide sweeping views of almost all of Novato and beyond. Condos and townhomes are usually clustered together, usually near the highway, and go for between $450,000 and $700,000.
Novato Unified School District
The area is part of Novato Unified School District, which has a B rating on Niche. Lynwood Elementary School has a C rating on Niche, and San Jose Middle School has a B rating. Novato High School has a B-plus rating and has a variety of extracurricular activities for students, like ping pong, mountain biking and comic book clubs. The College of Marin, one of California’s community colleges, is located just outside the neighborhood.
Getting around Novato
Redwood Highway borders the neighborhood and leads down toward San Francisco. Indian Valley is served by Marin Public Transit, which offers fixed-route and community shuttle routes. Stops are mostly set up along Redwood Highway, but there are a few along Sunset Pkwy, which runs through Indian Valley. Novato also has a Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit station downtown, which provides area residents with a route around Marin and to the San Francisco Ferry. For international travel, the San Francisco International Airport is about 40 miles away. The Novato Community is located along Redwood Highway going toward downtown Novato, less than two miles from Indian Valley.
Trailheads and lazy strolls
Lynwood Hill Park is the spot in Indian Valley for strolls beneath trees and through grassy fields. For more involved and challenging hikes, there are multiple trailheads nearby that lead into the Indian Valley and Ignacio Preserves. The Indian Valley Black Gulch Falls, Piping Rock and Halloween trailheads lead into the aforementioned nature preserves and take hikers up and down the hills where they’ll find small waterfalls, wooden bridges and vistas that show off Indian Valley’s landscape. It’s not all lazy walks or sweaty hikes in Indian Valley, though. Golfers can also find something to do at the Marin Country Club. The club has an 18-hole course, tennis courts and a swimming pool.
Easy to access local shops and national retailers
Indian Valley is just as close to nature as it is to shopping. The Vintage Oaks Shopping Center is across Redwood Highway and has businesses like Target, Sports Basement Novato and Sourdough & Co., a sandwich shop. The shopping center is also home to a Cinemark Century and Costco. Downtown Novato is about two miles away, and has local businesses and a walkable shopping district shaded by young trees. There are restaurants for most times and palates, like Marvin’s Breakfast Club, Henhouse Brewing Company Record Room and Carmen’s La Hacienda Novato.
