The neighborhood surrounds Laurelwood Park and Sugarloaf Mountain, where hiking trails meander across wooded, brush-laden terrain. At 225 acres, there’s plenty of space to roam the rugged hillsides. “Laurelwood Park is where all the locals walk. It’s a really pretty hike,” Watson says. Indian Springs Park is a smaller neighborhood park, and a nice place to unwind on a sunny day. A plethora of outdoor adventures are found a few miles west of the neighborhood in the tree-covered Santa Cruz Mountains. Beyond the mountains are the beaches, surf-spots and Pacific scenery of Half Moon Bay.Highly rated Hillsdale High

The Caltrain shuttles locals 20 miles into downtown San Francisco. But while many people commute to work every day, some residents don’t have to travel very far at all. "The San Mateo Medical Center is also in town – a lot of people work there," Polyak says.Low crime scores
