Tranquil suburb near the Boca Ciega Bay

The Bay Pines lifestyle looks like a montage of scenes from a summer vacation: sun-soaked parks on the water, sandy white beaches and boating on the bay. “People move to Bay Pines because it’s a more affordable beach area,” says Realtor Luda Shulman with FL Investment Realty and over 15 years of experience in the region. The suburb of St. Petersburg may appeal to those searching for endless waterside recreation at a lower cost.

Bay access at family-owned Bay Pines Marina

Residents can visit War Veterans Memorial Park for access to Boca Ciega Bay, where people can picnic in shelters while watching for wildlife like dolphins and manatees or sit back as the sun sets over the water. The park also has a boat ramp for kayak and canoe launches. Boaters can use the Bay Pines Marina, a family-owned, full-service marina with a tiki bar. For a day spent on the water, the Bay Pines Boat Ramp has several launches with docks, a fishing area and bathroom facilities. At Pinellas Trail, a 45-mile rail trail, locals can bike, jog and skate along a paved pathway.

Contemporary bungalows and traditional ramblers

Surrounded by the Boca Ciega Bay, Bay Pines consists of a large park and medical center on the southern half to residential streets on the northern half. Along the blocks of single-family homes, mature moss-covered oaks and small palm trees decorate medium-sized yards. For a suburban feel, the homes come with attached garages and driveways. Styles include ranch-style homes with colorful splashes of paint, contemporary houses, bungalows and farmhouses with wraparound porches. The area also has a few 55-plus communities of condos. Sales prices range from $99,000 for a one-bedroom condo to $500,000 for an updated ranch-style house. “People tend to buy a one-story on the water, then make a second floor to get the value higher,” Shulman says. “Many people relocate from New York or New Jersey, and they save money compared to the northern states.”
