Bayou Cane is a quiet community close to jobs in Houma
The Bayou Terrebonne waterway curves along Bayou Cane's busy roads and retail corridors. But beyond the central thoroughfares is a cozy, relaxed suburb. "Bayou Cane is tight-knit and quiet. It's a very slow-paced community," says Beau Toups, a Realtor with Century 21 Action Realty who lives nearby. "It's more of a population center than the nearby Bayou Blue [community]. If you like more of an urban or city living, you will find Bayou Cane attractive." The area has ample retail options and public green spaces. Bayou Cane reaches just north of Houma, where many residents work. "The community attracts people who want to live close to Houma. It's a good middle-class family neighborhood," Toups says.
Bayou Cane is within close proximity to multiple retail corridors as well as downtown Houma.

Taking Martin Luther King and Park Avenue
"You can get to pretty much anywhere," Toups says. "Our big main drag is Martin Luther King. Everything is just a hop, skip and a jump away." Park Avenue takes commuters to Houma in less than 10 miles. The roadway also leads to Thibodaux, 15 miles north. U.S. Route 90 is nearby, which brings drivers to New Orleans, around 60 miles away.
Fun at community green spaces and Bayou Country Sports Park
Oakshire Park has play areas and an open field, while Maple Avenue Park stretches across a single block between homes. Westside and Oakshire Recreation centers are next door to the public schools. Bayou Country Sports Park is an outdoor recreation complex with a popular splash pad. The recent expansions to the park include new volleyball courts and updated soccer fields. The members-only Ellendale Country Club, about 5 miles from the heart of the area, offers tennis courts and an 18-hole golf course.

Within Bayou Cane are more retail and businesses, including Sam's Club. Down Martin Luther King Boulevard awaits chain restaurants and big box stores like Home Depot and Target. As a part of the state's Down-the-Bayou region, the local cuisine leans heavily toward freshly caught fish and shellfish. Boudreau & Thibodeau's Cajun Cookin' and Big Al's Seafood Restaurant serve regional staples like seafood boils and alligator. Grocery store options include Bayou Cane Seafood Market and Cannata's Family Market. "If you want to do any shopping for groceries or want a little more luxury, downtown Houma is not too far away. You're a five-minute car drive from anywhere you want to go," Toups says.
