Beaver Dam is a small Kentucky town with a popular music venue
Beaver Dam is a small residential town near Interstate 165, home to the Beaver Dam Amphitheater. “It’s a great community in a country setting,” says Delia Osborne, a native of Ohio County and local real estate agent with Triple Crown Realty Group. “We have a million-dollar amphitheater that brings in high-class acts from all over America.” The venue is located within the Beaver Dam City Park, which also hosts a summer farmers' market. The rest of town is mostly quiet and residential with midcentury homes and some local businesses along Main Street.
Mostly midcentury homes with opportunities for acreage
Ranch-style homes and cottages in Beaver Dam mostly date to the latter half of the 20th century, featuring minimalist vinyl siding and covered front porches. Homes near the center of town are close-set along narrow roads, and acreage typically increases further into the countryside, where some keep small hobby farms. Prices depend on the property’s condition, mostly ranging from $100,000 to $260,000, though some homes needing repairs can sell for less. Internet connectivity was a major issue for locals in the past, though the recent addition of Starlink services has largely solved that problem. “With Starlink, you can work from home anywhere in the county with flawless internet,” Osborne says. “Until Starlink came, it was spotty in several areas. It’s been a gamechanger.”
Playgrounds, fields and an amphitheater at Beaver Dam City Park
For outdoor activities, locals head to Beaver Dam City Park, the only public green space in town. The park has many athletic facilities, including four baseball fields and a basketball court, as well as playgrounds, walking trails and exercise equipment. From May to October, the park also hosts the weekly Beaver Dam Community Farmers Market. The Beaver Dam Amphitheater is one of the town’s biggest attractions, bringing in award-winning touring artists and other live performances.
Casual eateries dotted along Main Street
Local businesses, second-hand stores and restaurants are found along the length of Main Street, which bisects Beaver Dam. Los Mexicanos is one of several locally owned Mexican restaurants, and other eateries include New Lucky Garden, which serves Chinese food in a casual café setting. Locals can shop for groceries at Walmart, just north of town, or visit smaller shops like Bolin’s Fruit Market.
The Annual Strawberry Festival takes place on Memorial Day weekend
The Strawberry Festival is held downtown every Memorial Day weekend, typically over five days. The celebration is often dedicated in honor of local veterans, and attendees enjoy carnival rides, a car show, hot dog eating contest, and more.
