Beaver Meadows is a residential community close to Hazelton
Tucked between undeveloped land and Beaver Creek, Beaver Meadows is a small pocket of suburban homes in eastern Pennsylvania. Removed from city life and consisting of a few streets cut through by the main artery of Pennsylvania Route 93, Beaver Meadows draws homebuyers looking for a peaceful atmosphere. “People want to live in Beaver Meadows,” says Ana Padilla, a Realtor with Wychock Real Estate. “It is a small, little town with a quiet, nice atmosphere outside of a bigger town like Hazleton. Personally, I would live there. It’s beautiful.” The community does have some events, like an annual Memorial Day parade, but much of the area’s attractions, dining options and schools are found in Hazleton, about 5 miles northwest. The Humboldt Industrial Park is also close by, serving as a major employer for the area with Fortune 500 tenants.
A small pocket of homes in a peaceful Pennsylvanian atmosphere
Beaver Meadows is almost entirely residential and offers an array of home styles. Colonial-style houses and Cape Cods line Route 93, and the area includes ranch-style homes. “There are different styles of homes,” Padilla says. “There are different prices, depending on the house size. I sold one house for $175,000, but bigger houses can be $250,000, and a nice ranch can go for probably $280,000.” Prices typically fall between $100,000 and $250,000.
Education northwest of Beaver Meadows in Hazleton
Most students go to school in Hazleton. Kids can start at West Hazleton Elementary/Middle School, which serves kindergarten through eighth grade and receives a C-minus from Niche. Hazleton Area High School spans grades nine through 12 and scores a B-minus. The Special Olympics recognized Hazleton Area High as a National Banner Unified Champion School for facilitating opportunities for Unified Sports.
Heading to Hazleton for shopping and dining
Beaver Meadows has one restaurant, A&A Pizza and Italian Food. It serves pizza, sandwiches and more on Broad Street. Locals typically head outside the community for retail and dining. “People who come from Beaver Meadows are often shopping in Hazleton, because Hazleton has a lot of supermarkets and is growing a lot,” Padilla says. “Hazleton is maybe 10 minutes from Beaver Meadows. They can also go to Allentown, too, because nothing is too far.” Restaurants along Broad Street in Hazleton include The Pines Eatery & Spirits and the Broad St. Grille, both of which serve American food and happy hour specials, and Luisa Restaurant, which has Dominican fare. Hazleton’s GIANT grocery location is less than 5 miles from Beaver Meadows.
Employment opportunities close to Interstate 81
Less than 9 miles west of Beaver Meadows, the Humboldt Industrial Park offers employment opportunities to locals. “There is lots of work and a lot of jobs close to Beaver Meadows,” Padilla says. “People can get to work in probably 10 minutes.” Major tenants of buildings in the park include Amazon, FedEx and Reynolds.
Getting around Pennsylvania from Beaver Meadows
Hazleton is about 5 miles northwest up Pennsylvania Route 93, and on-ramps to Interstate 81 are about 6 miles away from Beaver Meadows. “Interstate 81 is right there,” Padilla says. “People can go anywhere. Beaver Meadows is a good location – everything is close.” Allentown is over 40 miles south, while Philadelphia is almost 100 miles away. Route 93 has sparse bus stops along it. Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton is about 3 miles from the community.
A small community green space and nearby Pennsylvania state parks
Beaver Meadows Park, which has a playground and two basketball courts, is on the north side, on the edge of where the community gives way to undeveloped land. Anglers can fish in Beaver Creek, which runs just south of Beaver Meadows. About 5 miles east, Eurana Park in Weatherly has a lake, disc golf course, a bandshell and picnic tables. An access point to Lehigh Gorge State Park, which encompasses over 6,000 acres, is about 10 miles east of Beaver Meadows. Visitors to the park can hike miles of trails, go rafting, bike other trails and fish.
