Bedford Heights is a city in layers. One section holds commercial and industrial properties, while other portions are lined with suburban streets and swaths of trees. Join the bustle of retail and business, or retreat to the residential roadways where you'll be surrounded by houses and the tendrils of Bedford Reservation that creep into the city. The reservation as a whole covers over 2,200 acres, with Bedford Heights connecting to its roughly 30 miles of hiking trails.

While this part of Bedford Reservation is the only park space in the city, there is plenty more to enjoy. "Over 430 businesses are based in Bedford Heights," says Realtor Brian Evans with eXp Realty. WhirlyBall is an amusement center with bowling lanes and laser tag that's been entertaining residents since 1987. Enjoy their food trays, or head to one of the city's favorite restaurants, Zeppe's Tavern and Pizzeria. Here, you'll get your fill of pizzas, wings and burgers while you watch Cleveland teams face off against their rivals or browse the selection of rock 'n' roll paraphernalia on the restaurant walls.

Sports fans also flock to the Winking Lizard, where beer and wings pair with the restaurant's numerous television screens. Be sure to visit the tank holding the Winking Lizard's actual pet lizard, or if the weather's nice, ask for a table on their patio. Scorches is another popular bar and grill, this one with pool tables and a pit for sand volleyball.

"The city's really been working to fix up and take care of Bedford Heights," Evans says. "People really care over there." The area's Colonial-style houses are a mixed bag of predominantly ranch homes, split-levels and Cape Cods. "Plenty of the houses have undergone renovation," Evans says, with those prices reaching into the $200,000s, while unrenovated homes can go for as low as $65,000. Private concrete driveways lead to garages, some of which are detached from the house.

Accessibility is another key part of life in Bedford Heights. "There are a few highways that cross through Bedford Heights, which provides easy access to wherever you need to go," says Evans. Interstates 480 and 271 converge here, making for a straightforward commute into the city of Cleveland. You might use the highway system to reach one of the area's schools, as Bedford Heights shares a district with Bedford and Oakwood. Bedford School System runs Heskett Middle School, which is located within Bedford Heights. Heskett is known as the "home of mindful scholars," the staff focusing on providing a stable bridge as students transition into young adulthood.

The school's reputation fits in with the city's tagline — The Crossroads to Better Living — combining a mix of residential, commercial and natural to create a balanced community that's well-connected to surrounding areas. So whichever layer of Bedford Heights you're in, amid the trees of Bedford Reservation or the warehouses surrounding the city's best eateries, or walking the quiet streets around your new Colonial-style house, you'll be living with a lot at your fingertips.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
