Bellaire is nicknamed "City of Homes"

Some people drive through Bellaire without knowing during their commutes to downtown Houston. However, Bellaire's family-oriented atmosphere is emphasized through its communal spaces like a splash pad, sports fields and recreation centers. Although the city is mainly residential, it has some high-rise offices lining the I-610 Loop and boasts proximity to Houston's premier medical centers. Though homebuyers are drawn to Bellaire for its bigger lots and luxury homes, they tend to stay for its tight-knit community, always hanging out at community events and markets.

Fall down the rabbit hole at Evelyn’s Park

The gem of Bellaire is Evelyn's Park on Bellaire Boulevard, a go-to for a little bit of everything. It's a popular spot for its splash pad with lily pad-themed water features, and two playgrounds for younger and older children with a rock-climbing wall. Art structures are dotted throughout the greenspace, like a multi-colored butterfly wall and an interactive Alice in Wonderland bronze statue. Summertime is spent at the Bellaire Family Aquatic Center on 5th Street, with a daily fee of $8 during the season. The center is in Bellaire-Zindler Park, offering fields for tennis and baseball. On Newcastle Street, Russ Pitman Park's nature discovery center hosts a bird club and campfire nights for adults. Remnants of the city's industrial past live at Paseo Park, a linear green space and the site of the old Toonerville Trolley.

Fresh homes of Bellaire

With residential street names like Magnolia Street and Fern Street, Bellaire's natural surroundings are accentuated by its proximity to pocket parks and trails. Situated on long, rectangular lots, Bellaire has considerably larger lawns, most spanning over 4,000 square feet. Split in half by I-610, Bellaire comprises Mediterranean-style luxury homes with Spanish tile roofs, French Provincial houses and contemporary builds. Smaller Farmhouse and ranch-style homes line sidewalks only found on some streets. Most neighbors have in-ground pools and double-car garages with circular driveways. Current prices range from $550,000 for a two-bedroom to over $1.5 million for over five bedrooms. However, homebuyers should note that property taxes in this area are higher than in surrounding communities.

Revitalization in Bellaire

The establishment of the Bellaire Comprehensive Plan is a revitalization announced in February 2024. The proposed plan will address issues related to commerce, flood risk, road infrastructure safety and parks. Bellaire is in Houston's 100-year flood zone, meaning a small percentage of annual flooding. Locals wanting to renovate homes must receive an elevation certificate showing the house is above the 500-year flood plain, especially post-2017 Hurricane Harvey.
