Quiet, upscale waterfront community
Once known as Belleair Heights, site of a majestic Gilded Era resort, the town of Belleair can be traced back to the construction of the Belleview Hotel in 1897. The hotel has been shaved down and relocated a few hundred feet east, but the high-end resort feel lives on in breezy Belleair. Situated between Clearwater and Largo, Belleair overlooks beautiful Clearwater Harbor and the Intracoastal Waterway on the Florida Gulf Coast. The town is a local golfing destination with two private courses and has four community parks where residents can relax in the sunshine or watch a sunset over the water. “Belleair is a quiet, upscale waterfront community,” says Heather Oyler, a Realtor who specializes in luxury properties for Sand Key Realty. “It’s very desirable.”

Golf course living
The real estate market in Belleair is relatively competitive despite a high cost of entry. Multimillion-dollar waterfront estate homes highlight the town’s rich housing inventory. Its picturesque neighborhood streets offer a collection of grand homes featuring Spanish and Mediterranean architectural styles, while smaller bungalows and ranch-style homes add to the structural diversity. Prices typically range from the low $600,000s to more than $3.5 million. “All of the homes are very nice, and a lot of them have private pools,” says Oyler. Both Pelican Golf Club and the Belleair Country Club offer private communities with single-family homes as well as condominiums ranging in price from $200,000 to more than $1.5 million.

Shop and dine on Indian Rocks Road
Belleair provides residents with an eclectic mix of retail and dining options, most of them concentrated along Indian Rocks Road. “There are a lot of antique shops, high-end décor and clothing shops, a couple markets and a few upscale restaurants,” says Oyler. The family-run Provence Art and Antiques and Collum Antiques are highly rated stores where shoppers can discover items from as far back as the 1800s, including Civil War relics. Belleair Market is a popular grocer known for its extensive selection of wines and craft beers, as well as its walk-in humidor. Adjacent is Belleair Café, a cozy eatery that offers outdoor dining. Chez Colette’s French Bistro is a popular restaurant serving timeless classics such as crepes and coq au vin in an intimate setting. An array of additional retail and dining options can be found nearby at The Plaza, including upscale restaurants E&E Stakeout Grill and Seaweed.

One of the oldest golf clubs in Florida
Established in 1897, Belleair Country Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in Florida. It features two 18-hole courses, and its array of resort-style amenities includes tennis, pickleball and croquet. The club also boasts a marina, conveniently located only minutes from the Gulf of Mexico. Pelican Golf Club features a modern clubhouse and an 18-hole course originally designed in 1925. The boating community enjoys life on Clearwater Bay, which borders the town, and nautically inclined residents can easily access the open waters of the Gulf via Clearwater Pass. Organized activity takes place at Dimmitt Community Center, which includes an indoor gymnasium and is part of a sprawling complex that provides athletic fields, athletic courts and playgrounds for the town’s youth to enjoy. Several green spaces are found throughout town, the largest and most notable being the waterfront environs of Hallett Park. The paved Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail runs along the town’s eastern edge, and the Belleair Causeway on the southern edge connects directly to Belleair Beach and its laid-back waterfront recreation.

Public transportation options
Though the area is served by the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority, most residents rely on their cars for getting around, opting for quiet streets over walkability and city conveniences. The main thoroughfare a few blocks east of Belleair is U.S. Route 19, which loops around the Clearwater-St. Petersburg area. For commuters, downtown Tampa is about 25 miles away via I-275, and 20 miles from Tampa International Airport via East State Road 60. The St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is just 10 miles away via Belleair Road.
