Coal Creek Natural Area, trails and waterfalls
On Somerset's southwest side, Coal Creek Natural Area retains some artifacts from its days as a coal site in the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s. There are miles of trails through a forested landscape that features several waterfalls. Close by, Cougar Mountain Regional Wildlife Park has hundreds of acres with trails and scenic views.Eastgate Park is located to the north and includes the Bellevue Zip Tour, a zipline and challenge course. At the park, the South Bellevue Community Center has fitness amenities like a climbing wall and pool.
Daylight ramblers and contemporary homes
Bellevue was developed starting in the 1960s. "The houses that haven't been updated are what you'd think of as mid-70s daylight ramblers or split-level ramblers," Hill says. "They were popular from the late-'60s to the '70s." Daylight ramblers are often set on a hill, with basements that include above-ground windows and a sliding glass door that opens to the backyard, where some may also put in a large rec room where the upstairs will feature an open-concept layout. "It's not a true basement, like a creepy basement that's totally dark, with concrete floors.” Hill says. “They are not considered good feng shui, but I'm seeing a lot of that style of home in Somerset."Hill says that out of about 30 listings, the cheapest home that sold in Somerset was $1.3 million, and a number sold for $3 million or more. Ramblers and other homes with 1,700 to 2,000 square feet sell for $1.3 million $1.6 million. "Some of the older ones were torn down to make room for the McMansions," Hill says. Houses with 3,000 to 4,400 square feet go from $1.8 million to $3 million. "If you can buy a good-sized lot in Somerset and bulldoze it for a million bucks, you can build your dream home and probably have a property worth $2.5 million." Additionally, the CAP Index crime score for Somerset is a 2 out of 10, less than half the national average.
Somerset Community Association, annual events

In December, Cougar Mountain Zoo hosts the Issaquah Reindeer Festival. About 8 miles from Somerset, Issaquah is the place to be for Salmon Days, a celebration of salmon spawning in the fall.

Bus service is available in the neighborhood; there are stops along Somerset Boulevard. A couple of miles from Somerset lies the junction of interstates 90 and 405. This major transportation point offers routes north, south, east and west, to access all parts of the region. Major employers within a 7-mile commute include Meta's Spring District campus, Microsoft Headquarters and the corporate office of Nintendo of America. The trip to Sea-Tac, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, takes about 15 miles.Welcoming design at South Bellevue Station
South Bellevue Station, about 4 miles from Somerset, is part of Sound Transit's East Link Extension. "It's a pretty nice station, it's nicely seated into the landscape," says designer and public art specialist Vicki Scuri. "Sound Transit worked with the community and realized there could be an art program to mitigate the impact on the open space wetlands." Scuri and collaborator Alexandr Polzin created the digital designs and specifications for the station art. "The acoustic panel cladding and the girders made a drab, gray expanse, so one thing the community wanted was some sort of bright ribbon to integrate it into the landscape and the Mercer Slough," Scuri says of the patterning that reflects the seasons and creates a welcoming environment.
