Bells offers small-town living outside of Denison and Sherman
Bells is a small town in Grayson County, located east of Denison and close to the Red River and the Oklahoma border. Home to more than 1,500 people, it features a downtown area with locally owned restaurants and businesses, as well as numerous single-family homes. The community is also conveniently located on two major roads, making it an easy spot for commuting to Denison, Sherman and the Dallas Metroplex.
Single-family home styles are available at a lower price point
Home styles in Bells include ranch, cottage, cabins and New Traditionals. While some properties can cost more than $1 million, most options fall between $150,000 and $500,000. Inventory typically sells more slowly that the national average, spending almost 98 days on the market. Homeowners' associations are also rare. Homes closer to the center of the community are situated on gridded streets with oak and pecan trees accenting lawns. Newer subdivisions tend to have smaller lawns and fewer trees. Pools are also a fixture of some residences. Farmsteads and properties with more acreage are on the outskirts of Bells.
Students can go to the Bells Independent School District
Students can attend the highly rated Bells Independent School District. The district offers an entrepreneurship program for high school students. Open enrollment and intra-district transfers are allowed depending on space.
Baseball and racing are the cornerstones of outdoor entertainment
The community has several recreational and entertainment options, including:
- Bells City Park, featuring a playground, skate park and multipurpose field
- The Kimball Carter Sports Complex, with two baseball diamonds and youth leagues
- The Grayson County Speedway, with its professional dirt races
- The Home Run Ranch, a Whiffle ball field modeled to resemble Fenway Park
Dining and shopping locations are on Bells Boulevard and Pecan Street
Dining spots are concentrated at the intersection of Bells Boulevard and Pecan Street and farther north along U.S. Route 69. Options include a mix of chain restaurants and locally owned spots, including:
- The 1836 Café, serving breakfast items, burgers and sandwiches
- Crossroads Coffee, with its coffee drinks and smoothies
- Finish Line Pizza
- Taco Factory, a regional chain serving a variety of Mexican dishes
Downtown also features several small businesses and convenience stores. Family Dollar and Dollar General are located north of downtown. More big-box retailers and grocery stores are in Sherman and Denison.
Flood and storm risks in Bells
A map from the Federal Emergency Management Agency indicates a risk of flooding in some areas, particularly near creeks. Severe storms and tornadoes can also be factors. A rail line cuts through the center of Bells, which can cause noise.
U.S. routes 69 and 82 are the main transit arteries
Bells lacks transit connections and is car dependent. U.S. Route 69 connects to Denison. The entrance to U.S. Route 82 is north of downtown and connects to Sherman. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is approximately 70 miles southwest of Bells. Texoma Medical Center is 15 miles west.
