Similar to the neighboring boroughs of Dumont and New Milford, Bergenfield, New Jersey, is quintessential suburbia. There are annual Halloween and St. Patrick's Day parades, summer fishing derbies and Family Fun Day. However, the storefronts packing downtown Bergenfield set the community apart, says Dave Miller, the owner-broker of Re/Max Integrity who has sold real estate in the area for about 30 years. "Not too many towns around here have good downtowns anymore. Bergenfield has a nice big downtown where you can to a few restaurants and get some clothes." Seventeen miles from Midtown Manhattan, Bergenfield acts as a bedroom community for New York City. Still, the borough's 27,000 residents have access to dozens of local businesses lining Washington Street.

Something for everyone at Veteran's Memorial Park
When school's out, kids have plenty to do to keep busy, including making use of the borough’s recreation department and Little League. Veteran's Memorial Park, the life center of the borough, has something for everyone from the playground, the splash pad area and athletic fields. There are numerous small parks with playgrounds scattered around neighborhood streets. The calm duck-filled water of Cooper's Pond draws many. “If you feel like taking a walk with your girlfriend or walking your dog, it’s a pretty spot," Miller says. The turf soccer field at Vivyen Park is used by youth sports leagues such as Bergenfield United Soccer Club. “Soccer seems to be exploding around here," Miller says.
