Spacious living steps away from Bethesda retail
Edgemoor hugs the western edge of downtown Bethesda, placing some residents within a block or two of prominent shops and restaurants. "Edgemoor is super sought after; home values go much higher than neighboring subdivisions," says Lauren Davis, an Edgemoor native and real estate agent with TTR Sotheby's International Realty. "It has access to the [Edgemoor] Club and downtown, and people love the neighborhood feel." Despite its proximity to downtown, locals here walk along wide, suburban sidewalks lined with mature trees, and most homes here are spacious custom builds from the early 2000s. "Basically, about one home a month sells there," says Ron Sitrin, a local agent with Long & Foster Real Estate Inc. "If you want to live in that area, you've got to act on it pretty quickly."
Members can play tennis and swim at the Edgemoor Club
The Edgemoor Club has operated at the heart of the neighborhood for over 100 years. "Residents of Edgemoor can apply for membership," says Davis. "It's a pool and tennis club with a private venue and social activities; there's also a snack bar." Members here can play a few sets on the tennis court or do some laps in the 25-meter pool. Kids ages 5 to 18 can also join the Edgemoor Dolphins Swim Team. A small triangular pocket park at Edgemoor Lane and Hampden Lane hosts benches under a shady tree canopy. Caroline Freeland Par is a one-acre green space with public art, a playground and pergola-covered seating just across the street from downtown Bethesda. A block north of the park is Connie Morella Library, part of Montgomery County Public Libraries, hosting story time events for kids and multilingual literacy workshops. Finally, locals in Edgemoor have access to the Capitol Crescent Trail, which runs 7 miles from Montgomery County, Maryland, into Northwest D.C., making for a leisurely bike ride or jog.

Suburban classic Cape Cods and newer custom homes
The neighborhood combines old and new developments, creating a variety of home styles. Most of Edgemoor's homes were built between the 1920s and '40s, ranging from classic, brick-faced Cape Cods and Colonials to Tudors with sheets of ivy climbing up their facades. However, newer constructions have steadily appeared throughout the neighborhood over the last 20 years, featuring contemporary, Craftsman, modern Colonial and New Traditional designs. "Because this area is so desirable, people have bought older homes, torn them down and replaced them with new homes," Sitrin says. Home values are higher than average for the D.C. Metro area, with prices starting around $1.3 million and stretching beyond $3.4 million. More modestly priced homes start with around 2,500 square feet. Those at the top of the range can go well beyond 5,000 square feet and have five or more bedrooms. Attached garages are a common feature, and many residents commit to landscaping projects to decorate their spacious front lawns with shrubs and flowers.

Bethesda Row and Woodmont Triangle host retailers and pubs
Locals can take Exeter Road a few blocks to reach Bethesda Row, a modern shopping corridor with a Giant for groceries and an Apple store. The shopping center also hosts Hawkers Asian Street Food, with a sleek, neon-peppered interior that provides a hip setting to sample Korean barbecue or roti canai, an Indian flatbread dish. Across Elm Street are the Shoppes of Bethesda, including Berries & Bowls for a fruit smoothie or yogurt bowl. Patrons can also head to Woodmont Triangle for its bars, with spots like Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery providing draft beers to pair with a menu of pub fare.
Bethesda Row Arts Festival fills the street with creativity
In the fall, folks can stroll along Bethesda Avenue for the Bethesda Row Arts Festival, the largest outdoor fine arts exhibition in the D.C. area. People can view the work of over 185 artists in styles such as ceramics, 2-D and 3-D media, acrylic and oil painting, and sculpture.
Montgomery County Public Schools get all A's
Students in Edgemoor are divided between two Montgomery County Public Schools zones, each with access to highly-rated schools for all grade levels. Pre-K through fifth-grade students attend Bethesda Elementary or Bradley Hills Elementary School. Kids can then progress to Westland Middle or Thomas W. Pyle Middle School. All four of these options get A-ratings from Niche and at least 9 out of 10 ratings for student test scores from GreatSchools. Both high schools, Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Walt Whitman, have A-pluses from Niche and are among Maryland's top 15 high schools per U.S. News & World Report. "Whichever one you go to, it's a winner," Sitrin says.

Close to Bethesda Metro, Wisconsin Avenue and the Capitol Crescent Trail
Davis comments on the neighborhood's walkability, saying that "[Edgemoor is] within 2-3 blocks of the metro, 2-3 blocks to downtown Bethesda, and the Capitol Crescent Trail, so it's realistic to bike to D.C. from the trail." Cyclists can venture into D.C.'s bustling Georgetown area from the neighborhood after a 7-mile bike ride along the Capitol Crescent Trail. The Bethesda Metro station is a mile east of Edgemoor and offers Red Line access through D.C. and Montgomery County, Maryland. Commuters can also drive along Wisconsin Avenue to reach downtown D.C. in 8 miles, about 30 minutes, depending on rush hour traffic. The National Institute of Health employs about 18,000 medical professionals and is a 2-mile drive north of Edgemoor.
